HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Maine swept an America East Conference baseball doubleheader against Hartford on Saturday, as Keith Bilodeau pitched a two-hitter in a 3-1 victory in the opener and the Black Bears hit three home runs in a 5-1 second-game win.

Michael Fransoso scored in the first inning of Game 1 and homered in the seventh inning.

Fransoso led off the second game with a homer, and Justin Leisenheimer and Mike Connolly also homered. Leisenheimer had two RBI and Connolly went 3 for 4. Jeffrey Gibbs allowed four hits in seven innings.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS TRINITY: Jordan Edgett finished with four hits, including two doubles and a home run, and three runs scored to lead the Polar Bears (16-6, 5-1 NESCAC) to a sweep of the Bantams (13-12, 3-6) at Brunswick.

Oliver Van Zant struck out seven in five innings to lead Bowdoin to a 5-2 win in the opener.

Matt Ruane had a home run, two RBI and two runs scored as the Polar Bears won the second game, 8-2.

ST. JOSEPH’S, SUFFOLK SPLIT: Alex Lorenc had an RBI single with two outs in the seventh inning as the Monks (19-10, 8-2 GNAC) pulled out a 4-3 win over the Rams (13-13, 5-3) for a split at Standish.

The Monks, who trailed 3-2 after six, tied the game when Brandon Chase scored on an RBI single by Dan Achorn. Andrew Devereaux pitched the last 12/3 innings for the win, and Mike Pratt hit a home run.

Suffolk won the opener, 4-0.

USM, RIC SPLIT: Mike Eaton went 4 for 4 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored to lead Southern Maine (13-12, 3-4 LEC) to a 14-13 win over Rhode Island College (12-12, 3-4) in the second game at Gorham.

Josh Mackey hit a solo homer for the Huskies in an 8-3 loss in the opener.

COLBY LOSES THREE TO TUFTS: Ian Goldberg drove in the winning run with a double in 10th to lift the Jumbos (15-4-1, 9-0 NESCAC) to an 11-9 win over the Mules (10-14, 0-6) in the completion of a suspended game.

Tufts then won a scheduled doubleheader, 4-3 and 10-2. Mike Mastrocola hit an RBI double and Nate Ellis added an RBI single for the Mules in Game 1.

BATES 7, BABSON 6: Gordy Webb had three hits and knocked in two runs, including the winner, as the Bobcats (8-12) held off the Beavers (23-10) at Babson Park, Mass.

SOFTBALL

BRIARCLIFFE SWEEPS SOUTHERN MAINE CC: Tori Boschert had six hits, nine RBI and five runs scored to lead Briarcliffe to 11-7 and 20-5 wins against the Seawolves (12-16) at South Portland.

Becca Roberts had a two-run homer in the opener for SMCC, and Kim Hunt struck out nine.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS SUFFOLK: Maria Labbe went 3 for 4 with six RBI and Maddie Kluna threw a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead the Monks (22-6, 13-3 GNAC) to a 9-1 win over the Rams (6-22, 1-11) in the opener at Standish.

St. Joseph’s won the second game 7-4, with Emily Leverone scoring twice and knocking in four runs with a home run and double.

BOWDOIN, TUFTS SPLIT: Melissa DellaTorre pitched a seven-hitter with eight strikeouts and had an RBI single to lift the Polar Bears (17-14, 6-3 NESCAC) to a 2-1 win over the Jumbos (14-14, 4-2) in the second game at Brunswick.

Casey Correau hit an RBI single that scored Hillary Smyth, and Molly Nestor scored on DellaTorre’s hit as Bowdoin got its runs in the second inning.

Tufts won the opener, 8-2.

NICHOLS SWEEPS UNE: Casey Brigham had three hits for the Nor’easters (22-10, 15-5 TCCC) in a 3-1 second-game loss after the Bison (17-12, 13-5) took the opener 9-8 on a sacrifice fly in the eighth at Dudley, Mass.

ALBANY SWEEPS MAINE: The Great Danes (16-18, 7-1 America East) scored five runs in the eighth for a 12-7 second-game win against the Black Bears (16-24, 6-5) at Orono.

Meghan McLain singled and scored on a double by Hilary Kane, and Jenny MacDowell hit a game-tying RBI single as the Black Bears rallied from a 7-5 deficit in the seventh.

Jennifer Eberhard homered in Maine’s 3-1 loss in the opener.

TRINITY SWEEPS COLBY: Lindsay Peterson and Alyssa Lepore each drove in a run for the Mules (5-13, 0-6 NESCAC), who lost 2-0 and 14-2 against the visiting Bantams (17-7, 7-2).

USM, W. CONN. STATE SPLIT: Katie Davis hit a two-run homer in the sixth to cap a four-run rally as the Huskies (3-25, 1-5 LEC) snapped a 20-game losing streak with a 6-5 win in the opener at Gorham.

The Colonials (14-6, 2-2) won the second game, 6-4.

AMHERST 7, COLBY 6: Beda Cha scored with 1.4 seconds left in overtime to lift the Jeffs (11-1, 6-1 NESCAC) to a win over the Mules (5-6, 2-5) at Waterville.

Mark Squicciarino scored two goals for the Mules, and Ian Deveau and Greg McKillop each had a goal and an assist.

UNE 13, WENTWORTH 5: Michael Pennacchio had three goals as the Nor’easters (8-7, 4-4 TCCC) beat the Leopards (1-8, 0-8) at Biddeford.

ST. JOSEPH’S 11, BECKER 10: Ben Pasquarello scored three of his four goals in the first quarter as St. Joseph’s (8-6, 3-2 GNAC) took an early 5-0 lead and held off Becker (6-9, 2-3) at Leicester, Mass.

UMASS-DARTMOUTH 12, USM 10: The Corsairs (10-2, 2-1 LEC) scored seven times in the third quarter to erase a one-goal halftime deficit, then held off the Huskies (3-8, 1-2) at Gorham.

Tim Bryant had five goals for USM.

COLBY 9, AMHERST 7: Anne Geraghty, Kate Pistel and Katharine Eddy each scored two goals as the Mules (9-2, 5-2 NESCAC) edged the Jeffs (7-4, 3-4) at Amherst, Mass.

USM 10, W. CONN. STATE 9: Rosie Forster scored five goals, and the Huskies (4-8, 2-0 Little East) built a 10-5 second-half lead and held off the Colonials (6-6, 1-2) at Danbury, Conn.

COLBY-SAWYER 16, UNE 10: Brittney Murphy had five goals to lead the Chargers (7-7, 5-4 TCCC) past the Nor’easters (4-10, 3-7) at Biddeford.

Hannah Tavella had three goals for UNE.

BOWDOIN 21, WHEATON 4: Jordan Smith and Katie Herter each scored three goals, and the Polar Bears (9-2) raced to a 12-0 halftime lead and cruised past the Lyons (5-9) at Norton, Mass.

EMERSON 10, ST. JOSEPH’S 6: Cassandra Diplock scored two goals, and Amelia Santos had a goal and an assist for the Monks (4-6, 1-5 GNAC) against the Lions (4-8, 4-2) at Boston.
