ORONO – Alex Abrahams intercepted an attempted clear and put a shot past the keeper with 3:05 remaining to give the University of Maine a 2-1 win over Maryland-Baltimore Country in an America East women’s soccer match Sunday.

The Black Bears (4-3-3, 1-0 America East) opened the scoring in the 43rd minute when Joanie L’Abbe lofted a free kick over the head of the keeper. UMBC (5-4-2, 0-1) got the equalizer in the 58th minute.

ST. JOSEPH’S 6, UMAINE-PRESQUE ISLE 0: Hannah Leblanc scored a pair of goals and Megen Pollini collected three assists as the Monks (8-1) scored five second-half goals to down the Owls (3-6-1) at Standish.

Sam Peters, Kim Jordan, Jodi Pollack and Doe Leckie also scored for the Monks. St. Joseph’s keeper Jaci Lorenzen finished with four saves to record her sixth shutout of the season and 24th of her career.

AMHERST 3, BATES 0: Sarah Duffy, Hannah Cooper and Megan Kim scored to lead the Lord Jeffs (3-1-2, 2-1-2 NESCAC) to a win over the Bobcats (2-5-1, 1-4-1) at Lewiston.

ST. JOSEPH’S 2, NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 0: Effie Drew opened the scoring on a backhand slap eight minutes into the second half and Amanda Celata added an insurance goal 14 minutes later to lift the Monks (8-0, 3-0 North Atlantic) over the Pilgrims (1-11, 0-3) at Standish.

Emma Astbury needed to make just one save to record her fourth shutout of the season. The Monks outshot the Pilgrims 36-1.

AMHERST 6, BATES 0: Katie Paolano and Sara Culhane scored two goals apiece for the Lord Jeffs (5-2, 4-1 NESCAC) as they cruised past the Bobcats (1-7, 0-6) at Lewiston.

Becca Otley and Christina Vega combined to make nine saves for Bates.

MEN’S SOCCER

BOWDOIN 10, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 0: Austin Downing scored three goals and Hunter Miller finished with two goals and an assist to pace the Polar Bears (2-2-2) to a win over the Beavers (1-4-1) at Farmington.

Colton Hall and Kiefer Solarte each added a goal and an assist. Bowdoin scored all 10 goals in the first half.

AMHERST 3, BATES 1: Keeper Thomas Bull scored on a free kick from midfield as the Lord Jeffs (7-0-1, 5-0-1 NESCAC) downed the Bobcats (1-3-2, 0-3-2) at Lewiston.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 5, NORTHERN MAINE CC 0: Brett Stilwell and Nicholas Oram scored two goals apiece to lead the Seawolves (5-2-1, 4-2-1 YSCC) to a win over the Falcons (0-6-1, 0-6-1) at South Portland.

BASEBALL

SMCC SPLITS WITH NHTI: Brendan Horton went 3 for 4 with a homer and two RBI to lead Southern Maine Community College (8-4, 5-3 YSCC) to a 6-3 win over New Hampshire Technical Institute (9-4, 9-3) at Concord, N.H.

In Game 2, Andrew Rascoe doubled and Alex Brown singled for SMCC’s only hits in a 6-2 loss.

SOFTBALL

NHTI SWEEPS SMCC: Lindsey Howell doubled and drove in a pair of runs for Southern Maine Community College (5-4, 3-4 YSCC) in a 7-2 loss to New Hampshire Technical Institute (8-3, 8-3) in the second game of a doubleheader at Concord, N.H.

Tori Lemay struck out 19 in a 2-0 Game 1 victory.
