KEENE, N.H. - Nick Campasano made five saves in his first college start as St. Joseph's defeated Fitchburg State 3-0 Saturday at the Xara Classic men's soccer tournament.
Eamonn Harrigan beat Fitchburg goalie Alex Ivanov with a shot from the left side to give the Monks (1-0) a 1-0 lead 1:20 after halftime.
Jack LaFreniere chipped in a pass from Paul Robbins 14 minutes later to make it 2-0.
Robbins set up the third goal in the 85th minute, lofting a free kick toward the goal that was converted by Ross Suleski with a header.
MAINE MARITIME 2, UNE 0: Nate Tipton and Daniel Hassett each scored as the Mariners (1-0) edged the Nor'easters (0-1-1) at Biddeford.
Jeff Butland made four saves to earn the shutout. UNE keeper Jon Planer finished with three saves.
PLATTSBURGH STATE 4, USM 0: Mike Payne and Stjepan Bandov each scored a first-half goal to lead the Cardinals (2-0) over the Huskies (0-2) at Plattsburgh, N.Y.
David Kreps made nine saves for USM.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
ST. JOSEPH'S 7, THOMAS 0: Jessica Needham had two goals and two assists to lead the Monks (1-0) past the Terriers (0-1) at Standish.
Mikayla Call added a goal and an assist, and St. Joseph's outshot Thomas 34-1.
GORDON 4, USM 1: Caitlin Nedde scored three goals to lead Gordon (2-0) to a win over the Huskies (0-2) at Wenham, Mass.
Southern Maine cut the deficit to 3-1 when Tara Moore scored on a corner kick from Chelsea Norton in the 12th minute of the second half.
Kat Rothe finished with eight saves for the Huskies, who were outshot 22-11.
UNE 8, MAINE MARITIME 0: Lauren Blaisdell, Alex Wells and Sarah Richardson each scored two goals to pace the Nor'easters (1-0) to a win over the Mariners (0-1) at Biddeford.
Ellie Arsenault and Morgan Humphreys each added a goal, and Amanda Vaudreuil collected a pair of assists.
Jess Woodworth made four saves for the Nor'easters.
FIELD HOCKEY
CASTLETON STATE 7, UNE 4: Castleton State (1-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead late in the first half and held off UNE (1-1) at Castleton, Vt.
Michaela Franey had two unassisted goals for the Nor'easters.
USM 2, BROCKPORT 0: Whitney McDaniel and Kailey Bubier each had a goal and an assist to lead the Huskies (1-1) to a win over the Golden Eagles (0-2) at Springfield, Mass.
Rachel Lolley got the shutout with seven saves.
