STANDISH – Danyelle Shufelt scored on a one-out single by Lindsay Moore in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift fourth-seeded St. Joseph’s to a 1-0 win over No. 5 Johnson & Wales in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball quarterfinal Wednesday.

St. Joseph’s starter Kayla Vannah scattered seven hits, striking out two over 61/3 innings to beat the Wildcats (24-17, 16-8).

UMASS-BOSTON SWEEPS USM: Kelsey Souza stroked a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to deliver a 3-2 win for the Beacons (13-23, 4-8) in the second game of a Little East Conference doubleheader.

The Beacons took the first game, 6-1.

BASEBALL

BABSON 7, SOUTHERN MAINE 6: Chris Kucher hit two homers and drove in three runs as the Beavers (20-14) jumped to an early lead and held on for a win over the Huskies (25-6) at Babson Park, Mass.

BATES 7, UM-FARMINGTON 2: Kevin Davis drove in three runs to pace Bates (12-14) over the University of Maine-Farmington (8-17) at Lewiston.

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 6, NORTHERN ESSEX C.C. 2: Nate McKeown had a pair of hits with two RBI to lead the Seawolves (21-20-1) to a win at South Portland.

BOWDOIN 8, BRANDEIS 7: John Lefeber went 3 for 5 with three RBI as the Polar Bears (21-9) extended their school-record winning streak to 12 against the Judges (10-20) at Brunswick.

MEN’S LACROSSE

BATES 13, COLBY 12: Jack Strain scored his sixth goal of the game with 2:23 left in the third overtime to lift the Bobcats (7-6, 5-5) to a NESCAC win over the Mules (6-9, 2-8) in a regular- season finale at Lewiston.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 10, CURRY 8: Pat Wolfe scored two goals and assisted on two others as the Nor’easters (12-4, 6-2) rallied to beat the Colonels (7-9, 0-8) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Milton, Mass.

TUFTS 21, BOWDOIN 8: Beau Wood scored five goals to lead the Jumbos (11-4, 7-3) to a NESCAC win over the Polar Bears (8-6, 5-5) at Brunswick.

Franklin Reis had three goals and one assist for Bowdoin.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 11, BATES 10: Lindsey McKenna scored with 31 seconds left in the second overtime to give Colby (11-3, 7-3 NESCAC) a win over Bates (7-7, 4-6) at Alfond Field in Waterville.

CURRY 14, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 12: Haley Carey and Ana Bottary scored 31 seconds apart with just over six minutes left to lift the Colonels (13-4, 5-3) to a Commonwealth Coast Conference win over the Nor’easters (6-9, 4-4) at Milton, Mass.

PLYMOUTH STATE 15, SOUTHERN MAINE 5: Meghan McNabb finished with four goals and one assist to lead the Panthers (10-2, 5-0) past the Huskies (10-6, 4-1) in a Little East Conference game at Plymouth, N.H.

BOWDOIN 12, TUFTS 6: Betsy Sachs scored five goals to lead the Polar Bears (13-2, 8-2) to a NESCAC win over the Jumbos (7-7, 3-7) in their regular-season finale at Medford, Mass.
