STANDISH – Alex Lorenc singled to score Nate Martin in the 11th inning as St. Joseph’s defeated the University of Massachusetts-Boston 8-7 Wednesday in a college baseball game at Larry Mahaney Diamond.
Martin had a solo home run and an RBI single for the Monks (7-7), who rallied from a 5-0 deficit to force the Eagles (4-7) into extra innings. Mike Pratt added two singles, a double and an RBI.
Reliever Andy Devereaux pitched three scoreless innings for the win.
BRIDGEWATER STATE 10, USM 9: Ian Williams singled home the winning run in the ninth as the Bears (7-5) rallied past the Huskies (9-6) at Bridgewater, Mass.
Chris Bernard had a single, double, triple and two RBI for the Huskies, who held a 9-6 lead after six innings.
COLBY 9, UM-FARMINGTON 2: Richard Newton hit a three-run double to help the Mules (6-7) down the Beavers (0-8) at Waterville.
Freshman Dakota Rabbitt allowed one hit over five innings to earn his first victory.
Newton’s double put Colby ahead 8-2 in the fifth inning.
SOFTBALL
UNE SWEEPS REGIS: Julie Bigelow pitched a one-hitter with four strikeouts as the Nor’easters (13-5, 6-0 Commonwealth Coast) posted a 9-1 win over the Pride (1-18, 0-8) in the opener at Weston, Mass.
UNE scored 12 times in the third inning of the second game on the way to a 17-10 win.
MAINE 6, HUSSON 0: Jillian Benson knocked in two runs as Maine (12-19) shut out Husson (3-8) at O’Keefe Field in Bangor.
Beth Spoehr pitched four innings of relief to pick up the win. She struck out seven, walked two and allowed one hit. Starter Kylie Sparks recorded two strikeouts and gave up two hits.
Terren Hall singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in another for Maine.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
COLBY 16, HUSSON 3: Freshman Katie Griffin scored three goals as the Mules (6-1) cruised to an 8-0 lead and beat the Eagles (3-3) at Bangor.
Ali Iannotti, Kirsten Karis, Claire Donegan and Alex Mintz each had two goals as Colby held a 30-6 shot advantage and led 11-2 at the half.
Megan Clement scored twice for Husson.
SIMMONS 17, ST. JOSEPH’S 14: Rachel Wallace scored six goals as the Sharks (4-1, 2-0 GNAC) beat the Monks (3-1, 0-1) at Boston.
Alyssa Marchant had six goals for St. Joseph’s.
TUFTS 11, BATES 8: Tufts (4-2, 3-1 NESCAC) scored three late goals to defeat Bates (2-4, 1-3) at Lewiston.
Casey Egan had five goals and an assist for the Jumbos, and Gabby Horner and Stephanie Perez each added two goals.
Jenn Brallier paced the Bobcats with three goals and Brianna Gross scored twice.
BOWDOIN 21, USM 2: Katie Stewart and Carolyn Gorajek each scored three goals and the Polar Bears (5-1) jumped to an 8-0 lead and raced past the Huskies (1-6) at Brunswick.
Katy Dissinger added two goals and two assists.
Mary Vaughn and Rosie Forster scored for USM.
