FORT MYERS, Fla. – Theresa Hendrix drove in three runs with a triple in the bottom of the first to get St. Joseph’s started in a 10-2 softball win Tuesday over Elms College at Fort Myers, Fla.

For the Monks (5-1), Connie Grovo and Heather Tripp had RBI singles in a seven-run first inning, while Megen Pollini added two RBI.

Laura Jordan got the win for St. Joseph’s, giving up eight hits with three strikeouts. 

MAINE SWEPT: The Black Bears (1-20) lost a doubleheader at Tampa, Fla., falling first to Quinnipiac, 6-5, and then to South Florida, 11-0.

In the first game, EmJ Fogel started a seventh-inning rally with an RBI double. Hannah Hill followed with an RBI single and Nikki Byron grounded out to score Fogel, but the Bobcats (3-12) got the final out with Hill stranded at second.

Hill took the loss for the Black Bears, giving up six runs on six hits in 31/3 innings. Alexis Bogdanovich pitched the final 22/3 innings, allowing four hits.

In the second game, South Florida (16-10) used a grand slam to put it away early as Maine’s Beth Spoehr (1-6) took the loss.

MEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 19, NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 11: Ian Deveau scored seven goals and had three assists to lead the Mules (2-0) over the New England College (1-2) at Waterville.

For Colby, John Jennings had five goals, Garth Franklin added two and Peter Reilly recorded five saves. 

SALVE REGINA 15, ST. JOSEPH’S 4: Salve Regina (1-5) outshot the Monks 43-26 in a rout at Middletown, R.I.

Andrew Sullivan had two goals for St. Joseph’s (1-4).

BASEBALL

MAINE 8, FLORIDA ATLANTIC 0: Jake Marks pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Black Bears (9-10) over Florida Atlantic University (10-7), at Boca Raton, Fla.

Marks struck out eight and walked one.

Michael Fransoso led Maine with three RBI on three hits. Colin Gay knocked in two runs, while Sam Balzano and Alex Calbick added an RBI each. 

APPRENTICE 10, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 4: Apprentice (12-2) scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good in its victory over Southern Maine Community College (11-7), at Hampton, Va.

Nate McKeown took the loss for the Seawolves, giving up four runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
