MINNEAPOLIS — In the aftermath of Randy Moss’ sudden exit from Minnesota, his tirade at a caterer during a team lunch last week has gained national attention.

Moss screamed at the co-owner of Tinucci’s Restaurant and Catering in Woodbury and Newport in the locker room after practice because he apparently didn’t like the way the buffet looked.

“(Moss) came walking up,” Gus Tinucci said. “There were a couple of guys that were in line. I was carving some meat for a guy and all of a sudden I heard all this screaming and I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I knew who it was immediately. I looked up and there he was.”

Tinucci said he heard one player tell Moss to shut up. He wasn’t sure which player. A veteran player sent the Minneapolis Star Tribune a text message Tuesday that described Moss’ outburst as “bad.” Tinucci said two Vikings employees approached him afterward and apologized.

 

VIKINGS: Two people with knowledge of Randy Moss’ status said Minnesota has waived the receiver.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information publicly.

Teams will have until 4 p.m. today to place a claim on Moss. The team with the worst record will win the claim. If he is not claimed, he will be free to sign a new contract with any team and the Vikings would be on the hook for the rest of his salary.

 

49ERS: San Francisco placed veteran center Eric Heitmann on season-ending injured reserve, clearing roster room for the addition of new linebacker Thaddeus Gibson, claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 30-year-old Heitmann was listed out with a neck injury, though he hadn’t played all season after breaking the fibula in his left leg early in training camp Aug. 9.

 

SEAHAWKS: Seattle put defensive end Red Bryant (right knee) and guard Ben Hamilton (concussion) on injured reserve, and released fullback Quinton Ganther and cornerback Nate Ness.

The Seahawks signed defensive tackle Frank Okam, who was released by Houston on Oct. 25.

 

REDSKINS: Former Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell worked out with Washington just three days after Donovan McNabb was benched in the closing minutes of a loss to Detroit.

Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said Russell was one of many players, including at least one other quarterback, who were getting a look from the team.

 

CHARGERS: San Diego waived outside linebacker Shawne Merriman three weeks after he was placed on injured reserve with a “minor injury” designation.

The Chargers also placed wide receiver Craig “Buster” Davis on injured reserve with a groin injury and re-signed offensive tackle Adam Terry.

 

BUCCANEERS: Tampa Bay placed rookie defensive tackle Brian Price on injured reserve because of a pelvic injury.
