AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Scott Goldberg struck out 10 and went the distance in the late game, and the Colby baseball team opened with wins of 12-3 and 8-3 over Elmhurst (5-3).

Greg Ladd struck out six in six innings in the opener. Jason Buco had two hits and three stolen bases, and Alex Finigan drove in two. Peter McAuliffe had two RBI in Game 2.

MAINE SPLITS WITH HARTFORD: Colin Gay scored six runs on the day, and the Black Bears (13-13, 4-2 America East) earned a 7-2 win after a 7-6, extra-inning loss to the Hawks (3-15, 3-3) at West Haven, Conn.

Alex Calbrick and Brian Doran each had two RBI in Game 2, and Mike Connolly threw five scoreless innings.

In Game 1, Doran singled in Gay to tie it in the seventh, but Billy Walker hit an RBI single in the ninth for Hartford.

BATES SPLITS WITH HUSSON: Ryan Sonberg went 6 for 9 on the day with a home run and three doubles, and the Bobcats (5-4) took a 10-2 win before the Eagles (4-7) rebounded with a 5-3 victory at Bangor.

Brad Reynolds and Mike Antolellis combined for a three-hitter in the opener for Bates.

Shawn Smith had three RBI for Husson in the late game.

WIS.-STEVENS POINT 13, USM 8: Ryan Schilter had four RBI as the Pointers (5-2) rallied from a 5-0 hole against the Huskies (6-3) at Auburndale, Fla.

Tucker White had two triples and three RBI for the Huskies.

SOFTBALL

MAINE 7, UMBC 6: Hannah Hill hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Black Bears (5-26, 2-1 America East) over the Retrievers (7-21, 1-2) at Baltimore, Md.

Hill also had an RBI in Maine’s three-run fourth. Jessica Burke tripled and scored and Kylie Sparks had an RBI single.

SAINT JOSEPH’S SPLITS WITH ST. JOSEPH (CONN.): Lindsay Moore ended the day with four RBI for the Monks (11-3, 3-1 GNAC), who lost the opener 7-4, but finished with a 7-2 victory over the Blue Jays (6-3, 1-1) at West Haven, Conn.

The Monks had 13 hits in Game 2. Emily Vigue and Emily Hummer each drove in a run.

The Blue Jays used a three-run sixth to win Game 1.

SUNY-NEW PALTZ 6, USM 0: Melissa Liotta and Erika Traina each had a pair of RBI as the Hawks (3-3) blanked the Huskies at Clermont, Fla.

ST. CATHERINE 10, USM 6: The Wildcats (6-2) built an 8-0 lead and the Huskies (0-6) lost their second game of the day.

Katie Davis and Jessica Hayden each drove in two for Southern Maine.
