BIDDEFORD – Kelley Paradis scored 22 points as the University of New England women’s basketball team defeated Smith College 64-54 in an ECAC Division III New England tournament quarterfinal at the Campus Center.

Paradis was 8 of 10 from the floor and 6 of 7 from the foul line. Margo Russell added 13 points, Carrie Bunnell had 11 points and Beth Suggs finished with a team-high seven rebounds.

The top-seeded Nor’easters went ahead 50-45 on a jumper by April Mroz with 6:14 left, but Rosa Drummond countered with her fourth 3-pointer for the eighth-seeded Pioneers (17-11).

Paradis made a layup and Russell hit a 3-pointer to help UNE (22-7) regain control.

USM 62, REGIS 59: Courtney Cochran had 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead the second-seeded Huskies (17-10) over the No. 7 Pride (16-12) in an ECAC Division III New England quarterfinal at Hill Gymnasium.

Erin McNamara added 11 points and Renee Nicholas 10 points for the Huskies, who trailed 46-41 with 10:59 left before tying it at 50 with a 9-4 run over the next four minutes.

McNamara hit a 3-pointer to give the Huskies a 59-57 lead with 1:59 left but former Deering High standout Claire Ramonas of Regis tied it with a layup before Becky Dixon sealed the win with two free throws.

SPALDING 94, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 38: Kelly Harrod scored 18 points as the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles defeated the 12th-seeded Seawolves in the first round of the USCAA tournament at Uniontown, Pa.

Alisa Sweet scored 18 points and Christina Ricci added 14 points for the Seawolves.

(3) BAYLOR 84, MISSOURI 52: Brittney Griner had 22 points as Baylor (27-2, 14-1 Big 12) beat visiting Missouri (12-17, 4-11).

KANSAS STATE 71, (5) TEXAS A&M 67: Brittany Chambers scored 35 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lift Kansas State (19-9, 9-6 Big 12) to a victory over visiting Texas A&M (24-4, 12-3).

CENTRAL FLORIDA 6, MAINE 3: Brian Adkins struck out five and walked none over six innings to lead the Knights (7-1) over the Black Bears (1-7) at Orlando, Fla.

Joey Martin doubled and scored and Ian Leisenheimer singled and scored in the second inning for Maine.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 84, PENN STATE FAYETTE 73: Coleman Findlay scored 29 points, including 18 in the second half, as the seventh-seeded Seawolves (18-11) beat the 10th-ranked Roaring Lions (7-18) in the first round of the USCAA national tournament at Uniontown, Pa.

Josh Mackie had 19 points, including six 3-pointers.

(2) KANSAS 64, (24) TEXAS A&M 51: Marcus and Markieff Morris each scored 13 points as Kansas (28-2, 13-2 Big 12) beat visiting Texas A&M (22-7, 9-6).

(4) DUKE 70, CLEMSON 59: Nolan Smith scored 21 points and Kyle Singler and Seth Curry each had 18, leading Duke (27-3, 13-2 ACC) past Clemson (19-10, 8-7) at Durham, N.C.

(4) PITTSBURGH 66, SOUTH FLORIDA 50: Nasir Robinson scored 18 points and visiting Pitt (26-4, 14-3 Big East) overcame a slow start to beat South Florida (9-21, 3-14).

(11) LOUISVILLE 87, PROVIDENCE 60: Preston Knowles had 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to lead Louisville (23-7, 12-5 Big East) past visiting Providence (14-16, 3-14).

(13) NORTH CAROLINA 72, FLORIDA STATE 70: Freshman Harrison Barnes’ 3-pointer from the top of the key with 3 seconds to play gave North Carolina (23-6, 13-2 ACC) a victory at Florida State (20-9, 10-5) at Tallahassee, Fla.

WEST VIRGINIA 65, (16) UCONN 56: Kevin Jones scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half and West Virginia (19-10, 10-7 Big East) used a late run to beat Connecticut (21-8, 9-8) at Morgantown, W.Va.

KEENE STATE 14, BATES 3: Matt Shairer scored three goals as the Owls beat the Bobcats in a season opener at Keene, N.H.

BOWDOIN: Tickets for Friday’s NCAA Division III women’s basketball regional doubleheader at Morrell Gym will be sold 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the athletic department office.
