BIDDEFORD – Amanda Vaudreuil scored on a one-out single by Gabrielle LaRoche with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the University of New England to a 4-3 win over Curry in the second game of a Commonwealth Coast Conference softball doubleheader Saturday.

In the opener, Allie Frazier went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and one RBI as the Nor’easters (11-7, 5-3 CCC) cruised to a 12-4 win over the Colonels (11-9, 4-4).

TUFTS SWEEPS BOWDOIN: The Jumbos (20-2, 6-0 NESCAC) won 5-2 and 7-1 over the Polar Bears (13-9, 2-4) in a doubleheader at Brunswick.

Julia Geaumont homered for Bowdoin’s only run in the second game.

BATES, COLBY SPLIT: Anna- Marie Martino scored the go-ahead run as Bates (5-9, 1-5 NESCAC) won 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader at Lewiston.

In the second game, Emily Schatz’ three hits helped the Mules (7-6, 2-1) to a 7-3 victory. Megan Michie struck out 12 while holding Bates to just four hits.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT SWEEPS USM: Eastern Connecticut (13-5) won two against USM (1-17), with 9-3 and 10-0 victories at Mansfield, Conn.

Kristen Duross had an RBI single and Lindsey Somerset hit a two-run single in the first inning of the opener for the Huskies.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS EMMANUEL: Danyelle Shufelt finished with three hits and three RBI, and Lindsay Moore added four hits and two RBI to lead the Monks to a 14-6 win over the Saints in the opening game at Standish.

In the second game, Moore and Heather Tripp each had two hits and two RBI as the Monks (17-5, 9-3 GNAC) cruised to an 8-1 win over the Saints (8-16, 3-9).

SMCC SWEEPS EMCC: Roberta Trafton had three hits and scored a run, and Danielle Mobbs added two hits and two RBI to lead the Seawolves (3-9, 3-3 YSCC) to a 6-5 win over the Golden Eagles (0-4, 0-4) in the opening game at South Portland.

The Seawolves won the second game 21-20 behind five hits, five runs scored and four stolen bases by Antonetta Brown.

BASEBALL

USM SWEEPS EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE: The Huskies (15-3) belted out 27 hits in 7-5 and 14-4 wins over Eastern Connecticut State (13-8) at Mansfield, Conn.

Chris Bernard and Matt Verrier each finished with four RBI for USM. Sam Dexter had four hits in the second game.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS BATES: Luke Regan had a pair of hits and drove in three runs, and Henry Van Zant struck out five while throwing a four-hitter to lead the Polar Bears (12-9, 4-2 NESCAC) to a 6-2 win over the Bobcats (8-8, 2-4) in the opening game at Brunswick.

In the second game, Timothy McGarry went 4 for 4 with two RBI and Christian Martin struck out 10 over seven innings as Bowdoin cruised to a 10-1 win.

ST. JOSEPH’S, ANNA MARIA SPLIT: Tyler Laverriere pitched a three-hitter in the Monks’ 3-0 win over Anna Maria (9-12) in the first game of a doubleheader at Worcester, Mass.

Tim Beaudette, Joe Coyne and Alex Markakis all had RBI singles for St. Joseph’s.

The Monks (14-6) lost the second game, 5-1.

TRINITY SWEEPS COLBY: The Bantams (14-8) swept Colby (7-7) at Hartford, Conn., winning 8-1 and 10-0.

Nathan Ellis finished with four hits for Colby.

SMCC SWEEPS EMCC: Michael Calabrese hit a two-out RBI triple to cap a five-run sixth inning for the Seawolves (14-12-1, 7-1 YSCC), as they rallied for a 6-4 win over the Golden Eagles (2-12, 2-8) in the second game at South Portland.

In the opener, Alex Brown went 4 for 4 with three doubles, a triple and three RBI, while Nate McKeown threw a three-hitter to lead SMCC to a 9-0 victory.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

HAMILTON 9, BATES 8: The Continentals (5-5, 3-4 NESCAC) held off a late charge by the Bobcats (4-6, 2-5) at Clinton, N.Y.

Moriah Greenstein finished with five goals for Bates.

LASELL 18, ST. JOSEPH’S 12: The Lasers (9-2, 6-0 GNAC) raced out to an 11-2 halftime lead in a win over the Monks (7-5, 3-2) at Deering High School.

Cassie Diplock led the Monks with five goals.

TRINITY 13, BOWDOIN 5: The Bantams (8-0, 4-0 NESCAC) pulled away with seven straight first-half goals in a win over the Polar Bears (6-2, 5-2) at Brunswick.

Bowdoin’s Carolyn Gorajek had two goals and two assists.

COLBY 12, WESLEYAN 3: Lindsey McKenna scored three goals and assisted on another to lead as the Mules (8-0, 5-0 NESCAC) cruised to a win over the Cardinals (3-7, 0-6) at Waterville.

UNE 16, NICHOLS 12: Hannah Tavella scored five goals and Gina Newsome added four to help the Nor’easters (4-6, 2-1 Commonwealth Coast) pull away from the Bison (3-8, 1-3) in the second half at Dudley, Mass.

MEN’S LACROSSE

UMASS-DARTMOUTH 9, USM 8: Mark White had three goals and Kyle Baker scored twice for the Huskies (4-6, 0-2 Little East) in a loss to the Corsairs (7-1, 2-0) at Gorham.

UNE 10, NICHOLS 6: Nick Gross scored two goals to lead a balanced offense for the Nor’easters (8-3, 2-1 Commonwealth Coast) as nine players scored in a win over the Bison (3-7, 0-4) at Dudley, Mass.

Dan O’Gorman and Tyler Thomas added a goal and two assists apiece for the Nor’easters, who are off to their best start in school history.

LASELL 13, ST. JOSEPH’S 6: Andrew Hamill and Jake Ricciardi scored two goals apiece for the Monks (5-7, 4-1 GNAC) in a loss to the Lasers (5-5, 4-1) at Deering High School.

TRINITY 10, BOWDOIN 9: The Bantams (3-7, 1-4 NESCAC) scored with four seconds left to beat the visiting Polar Bears (6-3, 3-3).

For Bowdoin, Franklin Reis had three goals and two assists, and Billy Bergner and Peter Reuter added two goals each.

BATES 7, HAMILTON 6: Rob Highland scored with 1:29 left to give the Bobcats (6-4, 3-4 NESCAC) a victory over Hamilton (4-5, 2-5) in Lewiston.

WESLEYAN 13, COLBY 12: Wesleyan (8-2, 4-2 NESCAC) rallied from a 11-7 deficit against the Mules (4-5, 1-4) at Middletown, Conn.

John Jennings finished with five goals and an assist for Colby.
