Girls' Roundup: NYA earns field hockey win, shutting down Waynflete

PORTLAND - Maura Anderson collected a goal and two assists Thursday to lead North Yarmouth Academy to a 5-0 victory against Waynflete in a Western Maine Conference field hockey game.

Julianna Tardif scored twice, and Lillie Reder and Marina Poole also scored for the Panthers (11-2).

Katherine Torrey made eight saves for Waynflete (8-4-2).

YARMOUTH 1, FREEPORT 0: Kallie Hutchinson scored off a penalty corner from Katie Overhaug as the Clippers (6-5-1) edged the Falcons (5-7-1) at Yarmouth.

Nicole Hickey made nine saves for the shutout. Rebecca Harrison stopped nine shots for Freeport.

BELFAST 2, MARANACOOK 1: Maddy Cummings opened the scoring after 15:44 and Logan Blood made it 2-0 with 7:14 left in the half as the Lions (11-1) held off the Black Bears (2-8-1) at Readfield.

The game was stopped with 20:16 left due to rain.

Lindsay Jackson scored for Maranacook with 27:12 remaining.

Julia Ward made five saves for Belfast. Amber Ridlon stopped 12 shots for Maranacook.

NOKOMIS 5, CAMDEN HILLS 0: Lindsay Whitney scored three goals to lead the Warriors (8-2-1) past Camden Hills (4-7-1) at Newport.

The game was called with about eight minutes remaining because of rain.

Kelsey Kerstetter and Taylor Shaw also scored for the Warriors. Shaw also had an assist.

SKOWHEGAN 7, BRUNSWICK 0: Sarah Finnemore had three goals and two assists to help the Indians (13-0) shut out the Dragons (2-8-3) at Brunswick.

Makaela Michonski, Brooke Michonski, Rylie Blanchet also scored. Allison Lancaster and Renee Wright had one assist apiece for the Indians, who had a 42-0 advantage in shots.

Sydney Escoe had 16 saves for Brunswick.

GARDINER 6, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Brooke Davis and Abby Dunn each scored twice to lead the Tigers (9-3) over Lincoln Academy (0-12) in a game that was called early in the second half because of rain at Gardiner.

Ellie Luken and Nickyia Lovely also scored.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 5, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Skye Dole scored three goals, and Kendra Fox and Mackenzie Hill also scored for the Raiders (11-2), who took a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised past the Patriots (0-13) at Gray.

Olivia Rottari finished with 24 saves for Gray-New Gloucester.

MT. ARARAT 2, EDWARD LITTLE 1: Charlotte Crosby scored late in the first half and Caitlin LaFountain made it 2-0 midway through the second as the Eagles (8-4) held off the Red Eddies (2-10-1) at Topsham.

Samantha Goulette scored for Edward Little with 10:05 left.

Taylor Pare made six saves for Mt. Ararat. Amanda Williams stopped 18 shots for Edward Little.

TRAIP ACADEMY 3, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 0: Briana Lameroux, Beatrix Wiggin and Ashleigh Roberts scored for the Rangers (7-5-1) against the Seagulls (3-10) at Kittery.

Emily Bolton made seven saves to record the shutout. Colleen Dyer finished with 14 saves for Old Orchard.

BRUNSWICK 4, HAMPDEN ACADEMY 3: Rachel Moroney and Anna Cowan scored two goals apiece to lead the Dragons (11-0), who trailed 3-0, over the Broncos (8-2) at Brunswick.

Paige Tetu finished with a pair of assists, and Kassidy Scarponi and Maroney added one assist apiece for Brunswick.

YORK 4, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1: Ruby Cribby had a goal and two assists for the Wildcats (5-4-1), who scored three second-half goals to pull away from the Raiders (1-9-1) at Fryeburg.

Kayla Swasey, Charlotte Reilly and Paige McElwain also scored for York, which led 1-0 at halftime. Sasha Azel of Fryeburg cut the deficit to 3-1.
