Boys' Roundup: OOB scores early, puts away Traip

KITTERY - Quincy Grace and Sean McDermott each had a pair of hits and combined to drive in five runs Wednesday, leading Old Orchard Beach to an 8-2 victory against Traip Academy in a Western Maine Conference baseball game.

The Seagulls (2-1) built an 8-1 lead in the fourth inning.

Tyler Succi struck out five, walked one and gave up one run after relieving starter Christian Montembeau in the fourth for Traip (2-1).

WESTBROOK 4, BONNY EAGLE 1: Austin Blake went 3 for 3 with two RBI and Zach Bean struck out 10 in a four-hitter for the Blue Blazes (2-0) against the Scots (0-2) at Westbrook.

PORTLAND 4, KENNEBUNK 3: Travis Godbout drove in the eventual winning run on a single in the fifth inning for the Bulldogs (2-0), who scored the first four runs and held off the Rams (0-2) at Kennebunk.

YORK 7, FREEPORT 1: Derek Neal hit a three-run homer and Alex Mercurio added a two-run shot during a six-run sixth inning that boosted the Wildcats (2-0) over the Falcons (1-3) at York.

Neal also hit an RBI double for four RBI.

GREELY 11, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Jonah Normandeau pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks, and hit a solo homer that ended the game in the sixth inning as the Rangers (3-0) beat the Patriots (1-3) at Cumberland.

Mike McDevitt hit a two-run single and Miles Shields added a two-run double during an eight-run fifth.

POLAND 12, WELLS 1: C.J. Martin gave up three hits in 51/3 innings and Poland (2-2) took advantage of seven errors to defeat the Warriors (0-3) at Wells.

The Knights led 2-0 before adding three in the fourth behind Matt Rabasco's two-run single. Tanner Marston drove home two runs and also scored as the Knights added four in the fifth.

WAYNFLETE 13, SACOPEE VALLEY 7: Joe Schnier hit a grand slam and finished with six RBI, and Matt Jarrell added three hits and two runs to lead the Flyers (1-1) past the Hawks (1-3) at Portland.

ERSKINE ACADEMY 6, MT. ARARAT 2: Jake Rideout allowed five hits and struck out nine with no walks to lead Erskine Academy (1-3) past Mt. Ararat (2-2) at Topsham.

Erskine scored four runs in the fifth inning on two-run singles by Shawn Soucie and Jeff Pulver. Ryan Rodrigue and Pulver each doubled and singled for Erskine, and Trent Charnock had two doubles and a single for Mt. Ararat.

BRUNSWICK 8, CONY 3: The Dragons (1-3) scored six runs in the second inning on three hits and three walks, and beat Cony (2-1) at Augusta.

Charlie Lowell had two hits for Brunswick. Mitchell Caron had a double for Cony.

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 2, OAK HILL 1: Scott Hall's two-out single in the 10th inning scored Matt Vigue with the winning run as Spruce Mountain (1-2) beat Oak Hill (1-1) at Livermore Falls.

Vigue also scored in the first. Oak Hill tied it in the sixth when Ryan Reardon scored on a Parker Asselin single.


NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 9, CAPE ELIZABETH 6: Oliver Silverson and Matt Hawkins scored three goals apiece to lead the Panthers (2-1) past the Capers (2-1) at Yarmouth.

Alex Bornick led the Capers with three goals.

THORNTON ACADEMY 12, MASSABESIC 6: Taylor Browne scored four goals to pace Thornton Academy (3-1) over Massabesic (2-2) at Saco.

Josh Cyr added three goals and an assist for the Golden Trojans, who led 5-1 at halftime.
