BALTIMORE – The Baltimore Orioles optioned struggling second baseman Ryan Flaherty to Triple-A Norfolk after Saturday’s 10-6 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Flaherty was hitting just .133 in 30 games. The Orioles didn’t immediately announce a corresponding roster move.

Earlier in the day, Baltimore optioned right-handed reliever Alex Burnett to Norfolk, placed outfielder Nolan Reimold on the 15-day disabled list because of a right hamstring strain, recalled right-hander Jake Arrieta and moved second baseman Brian Roberts to the 60-day DL.

CUBS: Matt Garza is set to come off the disabled list and make his first start of the season Tuesday against Pittsburgh.

CARDINALS: St. Louis placed left-hander Jaime Garcia on the 15-day disabled list because of a left shoulder strain.

REDS: Cincinnati optioned left-hander Tony Cingrani to Triple-A Louisville and recalled infielder Neftali Soto.

BRAVES: General Manager Frank Wren says left-hander Eric O’Flaherty has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.

ASTROS: Houston activated second baseman Jose Altuve from the bereavement list after he missed three games while attending his grandmother’s funeral in Venezuela.

GIANTS: Right-hander Jean Machi was recalled from Triple-A Fresno, filling a roster spot that became available after infielder-outfielder Brett Pill was optioned to Triple-A.

YANKEES: New York acquired infielder Reid Brignac from the Colorado Rockies for cash, adding a lefty bat to the group of backups filling in for the team’s injured stars.
