Former Deering High baseball player Matt Pare has signed with the San Francisco Giants as an undrafted free agent.

The 6-foot, 190-pound catcher, formerly known as Matt Watson, finished a four-year career at Boston College this spring. He led the Eagles with a .253 average, four homers and 21 RBI in 42 games.

“Matt is a very hard worker and a solid defensive catcher with great leadership skills on and off the field,” said BC Coach Mike Gambino. “He will be a huge asset to the San Francisco organization and any manager he plays for will love him.”

Pare is in Arizona and did not respond to messages Friday night, but through Boston College said he was thankful to the Giants for the chance to continue his baseball career.
