NEW YORK – Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte was put on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left trapezius muscle in his upper back.

General Manager Brian Cashman said Friday that the team is playing it safe with its 40-year-old lefty, who becomes the Yankees’ 13th player to go on the DL.

Vidal Nuno was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will move into a rotation already missing Ivan Nova.

Pettitte feels sore but thinks that is from the severe spasms he experienced Thursday night against Seattle.

BLUE JAYS: Jose Reyes says he is progressing in his rehabilitation from a severely sprained left ankle, and the shortstop says he looks forward to playing before the All-Star break.

ATHLETICS: Left-hander and opening day starter Brett Anderson has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right foot that will require further rest.

PHILLIES: Right-hander B.J. Rosenberg was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and left-hander Raul Valdes was sent down.

Rosenberg was 1-2 with a 6.12 ERA in 22 relief appearances for Philadelphia last season. He was 1-3 and had a 4.30 ERA in seven starts at Lehigh this season.

Valdes was 1-0 with a 7.65 ERA in 10 appearances out of the bullpen.

GIANTS: Former minor league coach Victor Torres died Wednesday in Florida. He was 61. No other details were provided.

Most recently, Torres was hitting coach for the rookie Arizona Giants in 2012.

CARDINALS: Pitcher Jake Westbrook has received another elbow treatment, likely pushing back his return.

The right-hander is 2-1 with a 1.62 ERA in seven starts. His DL move is retroactive to May 9.
