BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Chris Brown scored the winning goal 26 seconds into overtime Tuesday night and the Portland Pirates inched closer to securing a playoff spot, rallying for a 5-4 victory against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in front of 3,469 at Webster Bank Arena.

Portland, currently sixth in the AHL’s Eastern Conference, can clinch a playoff spot with one point against the Sound Tigers in Friday night’s game at the Civic Center.

But Brett Hextall cut the deficit to one at 17:17, and Lucas Lessio, playing in  his second game with the Pirates since signing a tryout contract April 10, scored the tying goal with 59 seconds to go.

Bridgeport led 2-1 after two periods, but defenseman Mark Louis evened it at 2:47 of the third with his first goal in 59 games played this season.

The Sound Tigers went back in front on Nino Niederreiter’s 28th goal of the year at 6:04. Matt Donovan made it a two-goal lead with 4:05 to play.

Mark Visentin got the win in goal for the Pirates, stopping 21 shots.
