Tennis Players to Watch

GIRLS

Olivia Leavitt, now a sophomore, was one of three Falmouth players who reached the state singles semifinals a year ago. She’ll try to lead the Yachtsmen to a sixth consecutive Class B team championship.

Libby Voccola, Falmouth senior: Two-time singles quarterfinalist who returned to Falmouth after spending last year at a New Hampshire prep school.

Emily White, Waynflete junior: Returning No. 1 singles player for Class C state champion Flyers. Reached Round of 32 in state singles tournament.

BOYS

Kyle Curley, Gorham senior: Led Rams to first Class A state title, but back injury will likely keep him out of state singles tournament.

Jordan Friedland, Lincoln Academy senior: Defending singles state champion and three-time quarterfinalist who led Eagles to Western Class B semifinals.

Matt Gilman, Cape Elizabeth senior: Two-time semifinalist in state singles tournament who, as a freshman, led the Capers to Class B state title.

Brendan McCarthy, Falmouth junior: Twice has reached Round of 16 in state singles tournament and has helped Falmouth win consecutive Class B state titles.

Satchel McCarthy, Cape Elizabeth senior: Quarterfinalist in state singles tournament who won lone point in 4-1 loss to Falmouth in Western Class B finals. 

Aiden McGrory, Falmouth sophomore: Unbeaten at No. 3 singles for Class B state champions. Eliminated in singles prelims by Gilman, an eventual semifinalist.

Michael Mills, Cape Elizabeth freshman: Ranked second in singles among USTA 16-and-under boys in Maine.

Patrick Ordway, Waynflete senior: Former singles state champion who was runner-up as a freshman and a semifinalist as a junior. Has led Waynflete to three Class C titles.

Burke Paxton, North Yarmouth Academy junior: Reached Round of 32 in state singles tournament before being eliminated by second-seeded Justin Brogan.

Isaac Salas, Waynflete sophomore: Reached the quarterfinals of the state singles tournament and lost only to Falmouth and Cape Elizabeth in team play.
