PORTLAND – Haron Habibzai scored in the first half and Yusaf Yama in the second as Portland downed Deering 2-0 in an SMAA schoolboy soccer game Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

The game matched the top two teams in the Western Class A Heal point standings and was the first loss for the Rams (6-1-1).

Habibzai opening the scoring for Portland (6-1-1) after 6:41. Josh Irving, playing on the left side of the Portland defense, sent a through ball downfield to Habibzai, who took it straight to the net and lofted a shot from the top of the box that flew over Rams keeper Anthony Russo before passing just under the crossbar.

Yama doubled the lead with 12 minutes left. Charlie Gauvin kicked a midfield dead ball 15 yards ahead to an uncovered Sam Farr, who sent a hard ball into the box. Yuma, running across the area, one-timed a low shot out of reach of the diving keeper.

Bobby Brittingham shut out the Rams with three saves. Russo stopped four shots.

SCARBOROUGH 3, CHEVERUS 0: Charlie Mader scored two goals and Sam Cekada added a penalty kick as the Red Storm (5-1) scored three times in the second half to pull away from the Stags (4-2-1) at Portland.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 5, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: D.J. Nicholas scored four times and also assisted on Forrest Chicoine’s goal as the Panthers (7-0) beat previously undefeated Sacopee Valley (5-1-1) at Yarmouth.

Jackson Cohan-Smith had four assists for NYA.

OXFORD HILLS 3, LAWRENCE 2: Matt Beauchesne scored two goals and Luke Davidson added the winner with 1:33 left as the Vikings (2-4) beat Lawrence (2-5) at Fairfield.

Nick Blomerth and Robby Paddack scored for Lawrence.

WINSLOW 3, NOKOMIS 0: The Black Raiders (6-0-1) scored three first-half goals and beat Nokomis (1-6) at Newport.

Justin Burgher scored from Dakota Herman and Evan Clark from Jacob Hougton. Ben Smith added an unassisted goal.

Nate Buck made 21 saves for Nokomis. Alex Berard made six for Winslow.

FRIDAY’S GAME

VINALHAVEN 2, VALLEY 1: Zeb Campbell and Avery Waterman each scored twice to lead Vinalhaven past Valley (2-5) at Bingham.
