A call about a larceny in progress came in at 2:22 p.m. Friday, with a report that a suspect had made off with the baseball team's "Wally the Green Monster" costume.

It happened at Boylston and Dartmouth streets, not far from Fenway Park.

Boston police sent several officers to canvass for the suspect, also tweeting out an alert.

It said: "Missing: Wally the Green Monster," and added, "If seen please call Boston Police."

By 4 p.m., police discovered that a club employee took the costume and didn't tell a supervisor.

Police said no one is under arrest and "Wally the Green Monster is safe."
