TODAY'S GAME
WHO: Royals (Smith 4-5) at Red Sox (Doubront 10-6)
WHEN: 1:35 p.m.
TELEVISION: NESN
Just a few hours after Boston traded scheduled starter Josh Beckett to the Dodgers with Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto, the Royals scored three runs before substitute starter Aaron Cook got a single out. The Red Sox took a 9-3 lead after four innings thanks to four hits from Gonzalez's trade replacement, Mauro Gomez, including his first major league homer.
The Royals made it 9-9 with six runs in the seventh, all of them with two outs, including a game-tying, two-run triple by Mike Moustakas that was his first hit in 19 at-bats.
THE RED SOX suspended right-hander Alfredo Aceves for three games for conduct detrimental to the team.
General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement during the game against Kansas City.
According to the Boston Herald, Aceves was seen storming out of Manager Bobby Valentine's office after Friday night's game, when Andrew Bailey pitched the ninth inning for his first save of the season. Aceves has been the closer all year while Bailey was hurt.
