RED SOX: Gene Lamont was the fifth and -- for now -- final candidate to interview for the managerial job, following Torey Lovullo, Pete Mackanin, Dale Sveum and Sandy Alomar Jr. GM Ben Cherington said he hopes to narrow the field and talk to the finalists next week at the GM meetings in Milwaukee, with the goal of making a hire by Thanksgiving.
Lamont, who turns 65 on Christmas, is the only one of the candidates who has had a full-time managing job; he managed the Chicago White Sox from 1992-95 and the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1997-2000.

BOYS' SOCCER: Olivier Knight-Rouleau converted a pass from Jaime Bastos-Mendes midway through the second overtime to give Hebron Academy a 3-2 win over Kents Hill, at Hebron.
Hebron had taken the lead in the 52nd minute when Sam Blanchette knocked in a rebound after a penalty kick save by the Kents Hill goalie.
The Lumberjacks seemingly had the game sewn up when Knight-Rouleau scored with five minutes left, but Kents Hill scored twice in the final five minutes to send the game into overtime.
• PJ Lindonde scored in the fifth minute and Stephen Jette added a goal in the 65th to give Bancroft School a 2-0 win over Berwick Academy at Worcester, Mass.
Gray Gibson had six saves in the shutout.
