On Baseball: Trade balance put Red Sox on right path

Seattle's acquired players did not pan out. Robinson struggled and was eventually traded to Baltimore, where he has been sent down to Double-A. Hsien was eventually designated for assignment and is now in Triple-A with the Rangers.

Federowicz is the Dodgers backup catcher (batting .232), while Fife has been the Dodgers' No. 5 starter at times (4-3, 2.47). He recently came off the disabled list with shoulder bursitis and is currently in Triple-A. Rodriguez is on loan to the Mexican League.

In retrospect, the Red Sox had a glut of catchers at the time (as they do now) and might have lost Federowicz in the Rule V Draft in 2011.

They likely undervalued Fife, who did not display dominating stuff, but showed excellent command.

NOTES: The Sea Dogs have not released their 2014 schedule, but other teams have. We know Portland will open on April 3 in Reading. The likely home opener is April 10. ... The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field on Friday for their final home stand, featuring five games over four games (doubleheader on Saturday). ... Congratulations to former Sea Dogs pitcher Kris Johnson, who made his Major League debut last Sunday with six innings of relief for the Pirates (five hits, two runs, five strikeouts). Johnson had a 3.63 for Portland in 2008 but struggled after that and was let go before the 2012 season, when the Pirates signed him.
