The physical challenges for Mark Rogers of Orrs Island continue. The Milwaukee Brewers placed Rogers on the minor league disabled list with bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome.

According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the condition caused Rogers to lose the feeling in his fingers when he gripped a baseball.

Since being drafted by the Brewers in the first round in 2004, Rogers has had two shoulder surgeries. He recovered to make his major league debut last year. He pitched in four games (with two starts), compiling a 1.80 ERA, striking out 11 and walking three in 10 innings.

Rogers, 25, began this season in Triple-A. His first two starts looked fine (he allowed one earned run in 10 innings).

His next two starts signaled a problem. He left both games early, allowing a total of 13 earned runs in 31/3 innings. He has walked 17 in 131/3 innings. His fourth and final start was April 23.

 

RYAN REID of Portland was promoted to Triple-A by the Tampa Bay Rays. Reid, a former pitcher for Deering High and James Madison University, made his debut with the Durham Bulls on Sunday, recording a clean 1-2-3 eighth inning.

Reid, who turned 26 last week, had been in Double-A since 2008. He was struggling this season, with an 8.18 ERA in six appearances.
