SANFORD – Jimmie Chaisson made a free throw with four seconds remaining to lift Sanford to a 54-53 win over Thornton Academy in a Southern Maine Activities Association boys’ basketball game Monday.

Thornton (7-4) trailed 29-13 in the first half but rallied to take a 41-40 lead with 6:04 remaining. A basket by Alex Shain gave Sanford (5-6) a 53-51 lead before Quinn Richardson-Newton made a steal and pulled Thornton even with 30 seconds left.

Ryan Camire scored 16 points and Chaisson had 14 for the Redskins.

Justin Pollard had 17 points for the Golden Trojans. Jeffrey Gelinas and Richardson-Newton each finished with 11.

SOUTH PORTLAND 66, MARSHWOOD 60: Jordan Muller scored 16 points and made 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter as the Red Riots (8-3) held off the Hawks (6-5) at South Berwick.

Tanner Hyland added 15 points for the Red Riots, including a 3-pointer just before halftime that put South Portland ahead 32-30. He made another 3-pointer late in the third to help the Riots maintain the lead, 51-45.

Matthew Crosby had 22 points and Daniel Veino finished with 19 for Marshwood.

DEERING 55, SOUTH PORTLAND 44: Jon Amabile finished with 22 points and Labson Abwoch added 15 to lead the Rams (10-1) past the Red Storm (6-5) at Scarborough.

Ben Wessel paced Scarborough with 13 points. Dillon Russo and David Conceison contributed 10 and nine points, respectively.

GORHAM 51, WESTBROOK 32: Carter Bowers scored nine of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to help the Rams (2-9) pull away from the Blue Blazes (4-6) at Westbrook.

Nick Kilborn and Alex Owen added 10 points each for Gorham, which led 34-30 after three quarters.

BIDDEFORD 48, NOBLE 41: Cameron Nadeau finished with 14 points as the Tigers (6-5) beat the Knights (1-10) at Biddeford.

Adam Della-Piana and Anthony Baker led Noble with 14 points each.

Nick Leblond chipped in six points and 12 rebounds for Biddeford.

KENNEBUNK 59, MASSABESIC 51: Hank Lapham provided a strong inside game with rebounding and 16 points as the Rams (3-8) beat the Mustangs (1-9) at Kennebunk.

Kennebunk opened a 22-13 lead after one quarter and stayed in front most of the way.

Massabesic’s Ryan Dodge scored 14 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Mustangs briefly pulled into a tie, but two layups by Nate Gilbert (10 points) helped the Rams regain control.

YORK 63, WELLS 61: Aaron Todd scored 17 points and James McCafferty had 12 as the Wildcats (9-2) edged the Warriors (7-4) in double overtime at York.

Jake Moody scored 28 points and Dylan Stevens had 20 for Wells.

 

BRUNSWICK 64, SKOWHEGAN 54: Mitchell Black scored 17 points as the Dragons (7-4) beat the Indians (3-8) at Skowhegan.

Ryan Black and Konner Scarponi each added 12 points.

Levi Barnes scored 18 points for Skowhegan.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 72, MARANACOOK 36: Isaac Greenhouse scored 19 points to lead the Panthers (9-2) to a win over the Black Bears (4-6) at Readfield.

Jonathan Hendrikson-Bellouguet added 12 points, Alex Greenhouse scored 11 and Ryan Ripley had 10.

SEACOAST CHRISTIAN 33, RANGELEY 31: Isaac LaCroix scored 12 points and Logan Archer added 11 to lead the Guardians (3-6) past the Lakers (4-6) in Rangeley.

HOCKEY

THORNTON ACADEMY 12, KENNEBUNK 2: Robbie Downing, Andrew Carignan and Alex Lambert scored hat tricks for the Trojans (8-1) in a win over the Rams (6-4) at Biddeford Ice Arena.

The Trojans led 9-0 after two periods. Ned Richard and Nick Manuel both scored in the first five minutes of the third period for Kennebunk.

BANGOR 6, FALMOUTH 3: Parker Sanderson notched a hat trick and Chris Howat made 59 saves as the Rams (7-1) beat the Yachtsmen (5-3) at Family Ice Center.

Sanderson scored twice during a five-goal second period, then clinched the victory with an empty-net goal. Zach Papsadora, Connor Griffin and Justin Courtney each added a goal and assist.

Cameron Bell, Mitch Tapley and Alden Weller scored for Falmouth.

YORK 4, MARSHWOOD/TRAIP 3: Jared Clauson finished with a goal and an assist, and James Orso, Shane Hughes and Conor O’Brien each added a goal to help the Wildcats (4-2-2) hand the Hawks (8-1) their first loss, at Dover Ice Arena.

York opened a 3-0 lead after one period and survived a third-period comeback by the Hawks.

Andrew Hale led Marshwood/Traip with a goal and an assist. Nate Barrett and Nick Deveau also scored.

WINDHAM/SACOPEE VALLEY 4, MASSABESIC/OOB 4: Patrick Wyman’s goal with 5:05 left in regulation enabled Massabesic/Old Orchard Beach (2-5-1) to earn a tie at Saco.

Aaron Gass scored twice for the Mustangs, who erased a 4-2 deficit in the third period.

Drew Bernier had a pair of goals for Windham/Sacopee Valley (1-9-1). Tim Dubois and Owen Phillips also scored, and Curtis Merrill made 47 saves.
