BRISTOL, Conn. — Jocelyn Bodington pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts Tuesday, leading Cumberland, R.I., to a 4-1 victory against Scarborough in the Little League softball East Regional for 11-and 12-year-olds.

Kaitlyn Verreault singled up the middle with one out in the sixth, the only hit for Scarborough.

Scarborough finished third in the New England bracket with a 2-2 record and advanced to the single-elimination portion of the tournament.

Scarborough will meet Robbinsville, N.J., in the quarterfinals at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The East champion will advance to the World Series in Portland, Ore., where it will open against a team from the Philippines.

Trailing 4-0, Scarborough pushed across an unearned run in the sixth inning.

Verreault continued to second on her single on a throwing error by the center fielder. She then went to third on a wild pitch before scoring when Sarah Berube’s grounder to short was misplayed.
