STANDISH – Zach Dubiel passed for four touchdowns and ran for another as Bonny Eagle improved to 4-0 with a 34-26 win over Scarborough Friday night.

Red Storm quarterback Ben Greenberg directed a 60-yard drive to pull Scarborough (1-3) within eight points with 1:08 to go.

Scarborough’s ensuing onside kick attempt did not go far enough, however. Bonny Eagle took possession and ran out the clock.

Bonny Eagle totaled 395 yards to Scarborough’s 343.

The Scots played turnover-free, while Scarborough lost two fumbles and threw two interceptions. The Red Storm also saw promising drives thwarted by holding penalties.

Our guys made some good plays, but the flag would come out or we’d turn it over,” Scarborough Coach Lance Johnson said.

Dubiel and Ben Malloy each had an interception. Malloy and Dillon Reynolds recovered the fumbles.

Dubiel ran 14 times for 133 yards while completing 7 of 10 passes for 98 yards.

But it was hardly a one-man offense. Fullback Matt Smith ran nine times for 110 yards. Joe Bissonnette caught four passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Jon Woods rushed for 43 yards and caught two touchdown passes.

“I have a lot of weapons,” said Dubiel.

“The more skill players we can develop and get involved, the more versatile and effective we are,” Scots Coach Kevin Cooper said. “With Zach Dubiel playing the way he did tonight, we can be a very effective offense.”

Scarborough showcases a pretty good offense, too, directed by Greenberg. He rushed 13 times for 108 yards and a score while completing 9 of 19 for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver Chris Cyr caught three passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran back a kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown. Running backs Kenny Adams (58 yards) and Dan LeClair (50 yards) kept the Red Storm moving on the ground.

Scarborough drove 78 yards, capped by Greenberg’s 39-yard strike to Cyr, for a 6-0 lead.

The Red Storm were driving again into Scots territory, but Dubiel’s interception and return gave Bonny Eagle the ball at the Scarborough 32.

Dubiel finished the short drive with a 5-yard pass to Woods. Isaiah Reynolds’ extra point kick gave Bonny Eagle a 7-6 lead.

The teams traded touchdowns and missed conversions in the second quarter, leaving Bonny Eagle with a 13-12 halftime lead.

The Scots scored twice in four minutes in the third quarter, including a 50-yard bomb from Dubiel to Bissonnette. Scarborough fumbled the kickoff return, and Bonny Eagle drove 38 yards for a 27-12 lead.

Greenberg directed a 70-yard drive to cut the deficit to 27-20. But Bonny Eagle drove right back, going 67 yards, capped by Dubiel’s 19-yard timing pass to Bissonnette with 2:22 left.
