NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Ronald Bermudez’s first home run of the season capped a five-run fourth inning as the Portland Sea Dogs overcame an early five-run deficit Tuesday to beat the New Britain Rock Cats, 8-7.

Christian Vazquez led off the Portland sixth inning with a home run to left field for a 6-5 lead.

New Britain took a 3-0 lead in the first behind Josmil Pinto’s two-run homer. Nate Hanson tripled home two more runs in the second for the 5-0 lead.

Tony Thomas preceded Bermudez’s homer with a bases-loaded double to center that scored Peter Hissey and Garin Cecchini. Thomas and Michael Almanzar scored ahead of Bermudez on the home run.

Portland, which has five straight wins, added single runs in the top of the eighth and ninth to offset Rock Cats runs in the bottom of those innings.

Thomas finished with two RBI and two runs scored.

Terry Doyle (1-3) survived his early troubles to get the win for the Sea Dogs, striking out 10 over seven innings. Doyle allowed five earned runs despite giving up only four hits.
