Sea Dogs win by scoring in just one inning

A four-run fourth inning is enough as Portland beats Harrisburg, 4-2.

    Finally for Dogs, a victory

Portland puts pitching and hitting together to beat Reading and end a seven-game slide.

  • Jeff Howell, right, of the Portland Sea Dogs is congratulated by teammate Mitch Dening after hitting a fourth-inning home run with nobody on at Hadlock Field.

    Going, going, officially gone

Any hopes of a postseason – if there had been any – are extinguished with a seventh straight loss to end an ugly 0-6 homestand.

  • Reynaldo Rodriguez of the Portland Sea Dogs slides across the plate Tuesday night, scoring on a wild pitch in the second inning. It was the only run for Portland; the Harrisburg Senators emerged with a 4-1 victory before a sold-out Hadlock Field crowd.

Steve Solloway: Growing up while going up

In a pre-ESPN, pre-Internet world, Bryce Harper might have been allowed to grow up and pay his dues with none of us keeping tabs. Today there are no secrets and no patience.

He’s been ejected after throwing his batting helmet in anger. He’s blown a kiss to a pitcher after hitting a home run, and it’s dissected again and again. He was hitting only .256 before his hammy started hurting and really, ask some, how phenomenal is that?

  • Portland shortstop Ryan Dent snags the ball on this infield hit in the sixth inning against the Harrisburg Senators on Monday night at Hadlock Field. Portland held a 1-0 lead after seven strong innings from starting pitcher Chris Balcom-Miller but Harrisburg rallied for a 4-1 victory.

Senators 4, Sea Dogs 1: Brilliant start, but dismal end

Starting pitcher Chris Balcom-Miller has his best outing yet, but the last-place Sea Dogs fail to stop the first-place Senators.

  • Portland's Mark Wagner, left, congratulates Jeremy Hazelbaker, foreground, and Reynaldo Rodriguez after all three scored on Hazelbaker's home run in the fifth inning that gave Portland a brief 5-4 lead against the Binghamton Mets on Sunday at Hadlock Field.

    Decidedly steady progress

Portland Sea Dogs right-handed pitcher Brock Huntzinger has not won a game since July 6, and his ERA is 6.57. But it is conceivable that some major league team might want Huntzinger next year.

Huntzinger struck out 11 in six innings Sunday but earned another non-decision in a 7-6 Sea Dogs loss to the Binghamton Mets, before 6,568 at Hadlock Field.
