BOSTON – The Red Sox announced Sunday that they are sending reliever Daniel Bard back to the Portland Sea Dogs.

The move will presumably make room for the return of reliever Joel Hanrahan from the disabled list.

Hanrahan is coming back from a sore hamstring. He made a rehab appearance in Pawtucket on Sunday, pitching a scoreless inning, allowing a walk.

Bard made two appearances after he was called up. He pitched a scoreless inning last Thursday, giving up a hit. But on Saturday, Bard walked the only two batters he faced.
