Huskies capture a thriller, then fall to Linfield in final
The magical season is over. An hour after beating Ithaca to get to the Division IIII baseball finals, USM was stymied by Linfield College, 4-1.
If the Huskies win twice on Tuesday, they will claim their third Division III baseball championship since 1991.
The victory pushed USM into the final day of the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.
Ryan Yates pitches six effective innings, and USM stays alive at the Division III World Series.
USM must beat Webster College of Missouri on Sunday to stay alive in the double elimination tournament.
USM gets key contributions in a 10-inning victory at the Division III nationals.
They play again Saturday at the championships in Wisconsin.
Ed Flaherty, whose reputation lures players from around New England, has his team playing for a title again.
