Roundup: Spartans move on with win

SANFORD - Samantha Adams and Morgan Fogg scored 13 points each Wednesday night, helping sixth-seeded Sanford pull away to a 50-31 victory against 11th-ranked Bonny Eagle in a Western Class A girls' basketball prelim.

The Spartans (13-6) will meet No. 3 Cheverus (16-2) in a quarterfinal at 2 p.m. Monday at the Expo. The Scots ended 6-13.

FREEPORT 48, MARANACOOK 37: The eighth-seeded Falcons (13-6) broke a 6-6 tie with a 19-6 run in the second quarter against the ninth-ranked Black Bears (11-8) at Freeport.

CAPE ELIZABETH 55, OAK HILL 36: Marlo Dell'Aquilla had eight of her game-high 22 points in the first half as the No. 7 Capers (11-8) took a 33-13 lead over the 10th-ranked Raiders (11-8) in a Western Class B prelim at Cape Elizabeth.

BOYS' BASKETBALL

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 63, MT. ABRAM 41: Quincy Grace had seven of his 21 points in the first quarter as the No. 6 Seagulls (14-4) used a 16-4 run to beat the 11th-ranked Roadrunners (8-11) in a Western Class C prelim at Old Orchard Beach.

WISCASSET 78, ST. DOMINIC 56: Travis Padilla finished with 34 points, including 19 of 20 at the foul line, as the eighth-seeded Wolverines (11-8) downed the ninth-ranked Saints (7-12) in a Western Class C prelim at Wiscasset.

FOXCROFT ACADEMY 55, OCEANSIDE 45: Ryan Rebar finished with 18 points to lead the 13th-ranked Ponies (9-10) past the fourth-seeded Mariners (14-5) in an Eastern Class B prelim at Rockland.

MT. ARARAT 53, OXFORD HILLS 52: Mason Griffin finished with 16 points and Shyheim Ulrickson added 15 to help the ninth-seeded Eagles (8-11) hold off the eighth-ranked Vikings (8-11) in an Eastern Class A prelim at South Paris.

CAMDEN HILLS 62, NOKOMIS 46: The Windjammers (13-6) took an early lead and held off Nokomis (10-9) in an Eastern Class B prelim at Rockport.

BOYS' HOCKEY

GREELY 14, LEAVITT 0: The Rangers (12-4) scored seven goals in the second period and beat the Hornets (4-12) at Auburn.

BRUNSWICK 3, MARANACOOK-HALL-DALE-WINTHROP 2: Matt Brooks tipped in a shot by Kyle Woodruff three minutes into overtime to lift the Dragons (8-7-1) over Maranacook-Hall-Dale-Winthrop (8-5-2) at Kents Hill.

BONNY EAGLE 4, FRYEBURG ACADEMY-LAKE REGION 1: Kyle Whitman and Shayne Plummer had a goal and an assist each, and Cam Brown and Joshua Bagley also scored for Bonny Eagle (12-3) against Fryeburg Academy-Lake Region (4-11) at Gorham.

CAMDEN HILLS 5, GARDINER 3: Steve Hand had three goals and Jonah Cameron added two as the Windjammers (13-1) downed the Tigers (4-10-1) at Rockport.
