COLLEGES
Maine field hockey nets a 2-1 win over Rutgers
Annabelle Hamilton scored on a penalty shot with 58 seconds left in the second half to give Maine (2-4) a 2-1 field hockey win over Rutgers (2-3) on Friday at Orono.
The Scarlet Knights took the lead 12:20 into the first half and Zoe Adkins tied the score for the Black Bears with 22:13 left in the game.
Maine goaltender Alicia Frisch had three saves.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Emma Brush scored two goals for Dartmouth in a 3-1 win over Maine (3-3-0) at Orono. Eve L'Abbe scored the lone goal for the Black Bears with a long shot to the top of the net at the 64-minute mark.
Maine keeper Lauren Swant had eight saves in the loss.
• Michela Desjardins scored twice for SMCC in a 4-1 win over the St. Joseph's junior varsity team at South Portland. Lauren Rafford scored in the first half for the Seawolves (1-1). Bethany Gullbrand and Desjardins made it 3-0 after intermission.
GOLF
LPGA: Jiyai Shin followed her opening 9-under 62 with a 68 to take a one-stroke lead in the Kingsmill Championship at Williamsburg, Va.
American Danielle Kang was second after a 64 while Michelle Wie missed the cut with rounds of 75 and 71.
EUROPEAN TOUR: Graeme Storm of England shot a 4-under 66 for a three-shot lead after the second round of the KLM Open at Hilversum, Netherlands.
Three players were tied for second: Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Scotland's Scott Jamieson and Sweden's Peter Hanson, all at 8 under.
CYCLING
SPANISH VUELTA: Alberto Contador lost 17 seconds of his overall lead with only one more day of real racing left at Segovia, Spain.
The Spaniard, bidding for his second Vuelta title, now leads Alejandro Valverde by 1:35.
TRACK
RECORD-SETTING: Olympic champion Aries Merritt of the United States set a world record of 12.80 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles at Brussels, upstaging Usain Bolt's routine 100-meter victory in the final Diamond League meet of the season. Merritt sliced 0.07 seconds off the old mark set by Cuba's Dayron Robles four years ago.
Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake followed Merritt's record with a blistering 200, finishing in 19.54.
BASEBALL
COMEBACK: Roger Clemens, 50, pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings for Sugar Land of the independent Atlantic League with his oldest son Koby catching him against Long Island at Sugar Land, Texas.
The seven-time Cy Young winner pitched a perfect first inning, and later retired the first two in the fifth before hugging his son and heading to the dugout.
SOCCER
WORLD CUP: Rodolph Austin and Luton Shelton scored on free kicks as Jamaica rallied to beat the United States 2-1 in a Cup qualifier at Kingston, Jamaica -- their first win ever over the Americans.
Clint Dempsey scored for the U.S.
