HIGH SCHOOLS
Thornton-Cheverus football tickets available Thursday and Friday at TA
Tickets for Saturday's football game between unbeatens Thornton Academy and Cheverus in Saco will be available between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Thornton.
The cost is $4 for adults, $2 for students or seniors.
The gates open at 11 a.m. Saturday for the 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
HOCKEY
AHL: The Portland Pirates are ditching tobacco, and asking fans to do likewise.
The Pirates franchise will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon at the Portland Ice Arena announcing their pledge, in cooperation with Partnership For A Tobacco-Free Maine, for players and staff to refrain from smoking, chewing or using tobacco.
The Pirates' organization, including the Maine Hockey Group and the Portland Junior Pirates, hopes to generate more quitters among their followers and supporters.
