BOXING
USA Boxing reinstated after 3-month suspension
Amateur boxing's international governing body lifted its three-month suspension of USA Boxing over its response to several controversial statements by its former president.
The International Boxing Association's (AIBA) disciplinary commission leveled the suspension last week, effectively canceling all American amateur boxing competitions and clinics until mid-January.
After USA Boxing's new leadership appealed to AIBA, asking the governing body to refrain from punishing its 37,000 members for its response to ex-president Hal Adonis' incendiary comments about female fighters to New Yorker magazine, USA Boxing announced AIBA had allowed competitions and clinics to resume.
GOLF
CIMB CLASSIC: SRobert Garrigus shot a 7-under-par 64 to take a two-stroke lead over Jbe Kruger in the CIMB Classic at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Garrigus was at 14-under total 128 after two rounds.
Tigers Woods carded a 67 and was tied for fifth at 9 under.
LPGA: Norway's Suzann Pettersen shot a 7-under 65 to share the second-round lead with South Korea's Inbee Park in the LPGA Taiwan Championship.
EUROPEAN TOUR: Sweden's Peter Hanson shot an 8-under 64 to take a two-stroke lead over defending champ Rory McIlroy after the second round of the BMW Masters in Shanghai.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Mark Calcavecchia shot a 5-under 67 to take a two-stroke lead over Kenny Perry in the suspended first round in San Antonio, Texas.
TENNIS
WTA: Victoria Azarenka wrapped up the season-ending No. 1 ranking by beating Li Na 7-6 (4), 6-3 in Istanbul.
CYCLING
TOUR DE FRANCE: The seven titles stripped from Lance Armstrong will not be awarded to any riders, and the American cyclist and his teammates should return their prize money, the sport's governing body said in Geneva, Switzerland.
COLLEGES
WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Kayla Tutino scored twice to lead Boston University (6-1, 3-0 Hockey East) to a 4-2 victory over visiting Maine (1-4, 1-2).
Missy Denk and Kelsey MacSorley scored for the Black Bears.
BONE MARROW DRIVE: A bone marrow drive will be held between 4 and 6 p.m. Sunday at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham to help find a match for Jon DeCasanova, a soccer player at Eastern Connecticut State.
DeCasanova has aplastic anemia. His bone marrow does not effectively produce red and white blood cells and platelets.
PREP SCHOOLS
GIRLS' SOCCER: Brooke Downey had three scoring chances for Berwick Academy in a scoreless tie with Gould Academy at South Berwick.
