From staff reports
EASTERN SECTIONAL: Morgan Sewall, a sophomore at Scarborough High, placed fifth of 12 competitors in the junior ladies short program at the Eastern Sectional in Hyannis, Mass.
A planned triple salchow in combination became a double for Sewall, 15, whose score of 40.70 points leading into Sunday's free skate put her behind leader Madison Vinci (47.30) of Washington, D.C., and three other skaters, including fourth-place Brianna Laxson (45.28), also of Washington.
The top four competitors advance to the national championships in Nebraska in January.
GIRLS' SOCCER: Berwick Academy finished second in the Eastern Independent League tournament when second-seeded Pingree School redirected a second-half corner kick for a 1-0 victory in the title game in Hamilton, Mass.
Brooke Downey's goal put Berwick in the championship game, as the fourth-ranked Bulldogs edged top-ranked Lexington Christian Academy 1-0 in an earlier contest.
BOYS' SOCCER: Zach Flinkstrom, Blake Downey and Erik Wisniewski scored as Berwick Academy (11-6-2, 9-3-2) blanked Bancroft School (3-14-1) in South Berwick.
Berwick goalkeeper Sam Salvati had to make just one save.
FOOTBALL: Tim Swaby scored on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter and added a 2-point conversion to lift Kents Hill (1-7) to a 37-30 victory over Hebron Academy (0-8) in Hebron.
T.R. Vernal added two TD receptions for Kents Hill, while Nelkas Kwemo passed for one touchdown and rushed for another.
