Claws make a roster move before playoff opener

The Maine Red Claws acquired forward Justin Hawkins and waived guard Micah Downs on Tuesday.

Hawkins, who played for New Mexico State from 2005-08, was playing for Boulazac Basket Dordogne in France’s Pro-A League, where he scored 68 points and collected 34 rebounds in 255 minutes.

He’s expected to be in the lineup Thursday night when the Red Claws meet the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the opener of their best-of-three D-League quarterfinals at the Portland Expo.
