SOFTBALL: St. Joseph’s Kayla Vannah lost a 1-0 pitchers’ duel in the first game, but the Monks (29-9, 18-6 GNAC) rebounded to take game two, 12-0, over Suffolk University (13-23, 11-13) to close out the regular season in a doubleheader at Standish.
In the first game, Vannah scattered eight hits and fanned eight over eight innings.
In the second game, Victoria Ramos had a two-run double and Danyelle Shufelt went 4 for 4 with an RBI and three runs for the Monks.
St. Joseph’s will host a playoff game on Wednesday.
HOCKEY
AHL: The Phoenix Coyotes assigned goalie Chad Johnson and forward Nick Johnson to the Portland Pirates.
Chad Johnson made four starts for the Coyotes this season, posting a 2-0-2 record with a 1.21 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage.
In 34 games with the Pirates, Johnson is 16-15-1 with a 3.00 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.
