NOTES

HEAVY RAIN forecast for Saturday prompted officials of the SMAA and Western Maine Conference to postpone their league championship track meets.

Both will be held Monday, the SMAA meet at Thornton Academy in Saco beginning at 10 a.m. and the WMC meet at Lake Region High in Naples beginning at 9 a.m.

In an email sent to his fellow WMC schools, Paul True noted that Saturday's forecast was for temperatures below 50 degrees, a soaking rain and strong winds.

"At the end of the day, Monday will be a much better (safer) day for all of our student-athletes," he wrote.

The KVAC and PVC previously postponed league meets until Monday.

THE MAINE Principals' Association adjusted its spring sports calendar because of rain Friday and Saturday.

The MPA extended the baseball and softball seasons by two days. Games can now be played until Friday, May 31.

Previously, the last day for regular- season games was May 29.

Several schools have already taken advantage of the extra days by rescheduling games postponed this weekend to Thursday.
