ORONO-Lauren Swant made three saves, including one with 2:45 left in the second overtime period, to help the University of Maine women's soccer team (3-3-1) come away with a 0-0 tie against Fairfield (3-3-2).
Veronica Saez made nine saves for the Stags. Nikki Misener had four shots -- two on goal -- for the Black Bears.
FOOTBALL
BROWN: Joe Paterno will remain in Brown University's Athletic Hall of Fame. The Ivy League university announced that an independent board that oversees the hall has voted not to remove the late Penn State football coach, who graduated from Brown in 1950.
In July, Brown announced it had removed Paterno's name from its head football coaching position and a student athletics award and that the board was examining his inclusion in the hall of fame in the wake of a child-abuse scandal at Penn State.
SOUTH CAROLINA: Coach Steve Spurrier is uncertain if starter Connor Shaw is healthy enough to return against UAB (0-1) on Saturday or if he'll again go with Dylan Thompson.
Shaw injured his throwing shoulder against Vanderbilt two weeks ago and did not play in a 48-10 victory over East Carolina.
But Thompson led a resurgent South Carolina passing attack, throwing for 330 yards -- the highest total for any quarterback in Spurrier's eight seasons with the Gamecocks (2-0).
NOTE
MAINE: The baseball and softball teams will conduct a Badges for Baseball clinic Saturday in Orono, joining with U.S. Marshals for the District of Maine.
Nearly 125 children from around the state will participate in baseball and softball clinics, receive a presentation from local and federal law enforcement officers and be given a tour of the campus.
