GIRLS
1. Scarborough: The Red Storm have won four of the last five Class A championships, and as usual they have a core of talented athletes and enough depth to score in numerous events.
2. York: Numbers, numbers, numbers. Like Scarborough, the Wildcats always seem to have a glut of talented athletes, but they're aiming for their first Class B title since 2006.
3. Greely: Like York, the Rangers are usually strong contenders in Class B. They finished second to four-time state champion Waterville last year.
4. Bonny Eagle: The Scots fell short of winning the Class A indoor title by just a handful of points, and the leaders of that team also are competing this spring, including twin sisters Peyton and Amber Dostie, and sprinter Morgan Costa.
5. Thornton Academy: The Trojans finished third at last year's Class A state meet. They will be strongest in the field events, particularly in the shot put, with seniors Abigail Huntress and Emily Morin.
BOYS
1. Falmouth: The two-time defending Class B state champions are expected to be in the mix for another title, boosted by sprinters Reid Pryzant and Will Wegener.
2. Greely: The Rangers will be strongest in the field events -- particularly in the shot put and high jump. They boast two of the state's top shot putters -- Michael Burgess and Jack Fellows.
3. Brunswick: The defending Class A champions have to fill holes left by graduation -- notably the loss of distance runner Will Geoghegan, who won three individual titles. The Dragons will count on their sprinters and reigning pole vault champion, Mike Slovenski.
4. Mt. Ararat: The Eagles expect to contend this spring after a strong showing at the Class A indoor championships. They're strongest in the sprints (notably junior McKenzie Gary) and distance events.
5. Scarborough: The Red Storm have won two of the last three Class A indoor titles, and though they never have won an outdoor championship since moving up to Class A, their depth could make them a contender.
