Girls' Roundup: Thornton gets a field hockey win

SACO - Morgan Dube and Alicyn Romprey scored in the first half Saturday and Thornton Academy went on to a 2-0 victory against Windham in a Southern Maine Activities Association field hockey game.

Dube scored with assists from Libby Pomerleau and Lauren Russell 10 minutes into the game for the Golden Trojans (1-1). Romprey put in a rebound with 2:23 left in the half.

Thornton goalie Abbey Siulinski made two saves. Andrea Feeney stopped nine shots for Windham (0-2).

MARSHWOOD 6, PORTLAND 0: Karissa Boesch scored three times as the Hawks opened their season with a victory over the Bulldogs (0-2) in Portland.

Ashley Tice and Boesch scored in the final 5:19 of the first half for a 2-0 lead. Emily Osborne and Lindsay Poirier contributed second-half goals.

WESTBROOK 3, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Ally Lemay scored twice and Danielle Richards had a goal and an assist to lead the Blue Blazes (2-0) past the visiting Red Riots (0-1).

Sarah Hopkins chipped in two assists, and Nicole Miranda made seven saves.

Lani Edwards had nine saves for the Red Riots.

MASSABESIC 3, GORHAM 1: Jackie Guillemette's three goals carried the Mustangs (2-0) over the Rams (0-2) in Waterboro.

Guillemette's first two goals gave Massabesic a 2-0 halftime lead. She made it 3-0 at 7:15 of the second half before Evelyn Viernes scored from Charlotte Smith for Gorham.

Alex Staples assisted on two of Guillemette's goals.

Abby Greenleaf made three saves for Massabesic, while Patty Smith stopped 18 shots for the Rams.

BIDDEFORD 4, MCAULEY 0: The Tigers (1-1) scored four second-half goals and held the Lions (0-2) without a shot on net at Portland.

Taylor Turgeon, Alex Quigley, Katelyn Perkins and Mallory Mourmouras provided the Biddeford offense.

SOCCER

MT. ARARAT 3, LEWISTON 1: Christine Levesque, Libby Ouellette and Chelsea Crawford scored for the Eagles in a victory over the Blue Devils at Topsham.

Kyleigh Letourneau scored for the Blue Devils.

Michelle Pelletier had seven saves for Mt. Ararat. Lewiston's Lexie Jimenez stopped 13 shots.

BRUNSWICK 4, OXFORD HILLS 0: Anna Cowan scored twice and Rachel Maroney had a goal and an assist as the Dragons opened their season with a victory in Brunswick.

Cowan, Maroney and Paige Tetu scored for a 3-0 halftime lead. Maroney set up Cowan's goal in the second half.

Brunswick keeper Haley Murano had seven saves. Samantha Bickford stopped 12 shots for the Vikings.

GORHAM 3, WESTBROOK 0: Kali St. Germain scored three goals and Jessica Rexrode collected a pair of assists as the Rams won an opener at Westbrook.

Renae Staples made five saves to record the shutout. Sam Russell stopped 11 shots for Westbrook.

FRIDAY'S FIELD HOCKEY

BELFAST 1, NOKOMIS 0: Maddy Cummings scored off a penalty corner with 23:10 remaining to give the Lions a win in their season opener at Belfast.

Kristine Mehuren and Katrina Lapham assisted.

FRIDAY'S SOCCER

WINDHAM 3, PORTLAND 0: Lauren Shoemaker, Ciera Berthiaume and Luisa Sbardella all scored from Jenna Soucy as the Eagles won an opener at Portland.

Kate Kneeland had to make one save for the shutout as Windham outshot Portland 31-2.

SCARBOROUGH 4, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Sarah Martens scored twice and Kate Daniels had a goal and an assist to lead the Red Storm to a win at Scarborough.

Hadlee Yescott also scored and Sam Sparda had two assists.

Sydney Martin stopped three shots for the shutout.
