OAK BLUFFS, Mass. – Evan Brisentine scattered seven hits and did not walk a batter while striking out seven in eight shutout innings, and the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide held on for a 1-0 victory over the Pittsfield Suns on Sunday afternoon in a play-in game for a spot in a Futures Collegiate Baseball League semifinal series.

In their second game of the day, Old Orchard Beach fell to the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 4-3 in the opener of that best-of-three semifinals.

In the first game, Matt Pagano scored the lone run for the Raging Tide when Fran Whitten grounded into a double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning.

In the second game, Chris Miller gave the Sharks an early lead with an RBI single in the second inning and added a two-run homer during a three-run fourth.

The Raging Tide got one run back in the top of the seventh on Whitten’s solo homer. They added two in the eighth on back-to-back RBI singles by Phil Sciretta and Brian Doran with none out, but the next three batters were retired to end the rally.

The Raging Tide will host Game 2 of the series at 7 p.m. Monday at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.
