Volleyball: Top seed, Calais set for final

Top-seeded Washington Academy and third-ranked Calais advanced to the Class B volleyball state championship game with semifinal victories Wednesday.

They will meet in the final at 5 p.m. Saturday at Husson University in Bangor.

Jasmine Ross and Kaylee Johnson served seven aces apiece as Calais (11-5) took a 3-1 victory against second-seeded Bucksport (9-7) at Bucksport.

Ross' 11 kills complemented Phyllis Sabattis' 14 kills for the Blue Devils.

Shelby Emery had eight kills and Victoria Grindle added three aces for Bucksport.

In East Machias, Secily Schmauderer had seven kills and four aces, and Kaitlyn Carl added six kills and three aces as Washington Academy (13-2) earned a three-set victory over fifth-seeded Machias (8-8).
