BURLINGTON, Vt. – Tonya Young scored 16 points to lead Vermont to a 57-48 victory over the University of Maine in an America East Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night.

The Black Bears (3-15, 1-5 America East) fell behind 15-5 after a 10-0 run midway through the first half by the Catamounts (2-17, 2-4).

Maine cut the deficit to four, 25-21, by halftime and trailed 29-27 early in the second half before Vermont went on 10-2 and 5-0 runs to take control.

Ashley Roberts scored 17 points with eight rebounds for Maine.

(5) TENNESSEE 71, SOUTH CAROLINA 56: Shekinna Stricklen had 18 points and a career-high 16 rebounds to help visiting Tennessee (18-2, 6-0 SEC) win its 39th straight over South Carolina (10-9, 2-4).

The Vols led 57-45 with 6:44 to go, but the Gamecocks scored seven straight points to cut into Tennessee’s lead before Meighan Simmons made two foul shots that started a closing 14-4 run.

Simmons had 16 points, all in the second half. Ieasia Walker had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead South Carolina.

(10) NORTH CAROLINA 71, WAKE FOREST 56: Italee Lucas scored 16 of her 20 points in the first half to help North Carolina (17-2, 3-1 ACC) rout Wake Forest (10-10, 1-3) at Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Tar Heels led 12-2 less than five minutes into the game and were never seriously threatened.

(12) MICHIGAN STATE 69, INDIANA 55: Kalisha Keane had 23 points and Lykendra Johnson scored 16, leading Michigan State (17-2, 5-1 Big Ten) to a victory over Indiana (8-11, 2-5) at Bloomington, Ind.

Jori Davis scored 20 points and Whitney Lindsay had 16 for the Hoosiers, who suffered their fifth straight loss.

Keane matched her career high with four 3-pointers as Michigan State went 10 of 16 beyond the arc.

The Spartans outscored Indiana 17-9 over the final seven minutes of the first half, giving them a 35-23 halftime lead. Michigan State extended the lead to 41-23 in the second half and withstood an 11-0 Indiana run.

(13) DEPAUL 90, NJIT 43: Felicia Chester scored 15 points to lead DePaul (18-2) to a victory over New Jersey Institute of Technology (5-11) at Chicago.

The win was the fifth straight and 15th in 16 games for the Blue Demons.

(19) KENTUCKY 59, FLORIDA 58: Victoria Dunlap scored 12 points, including two free throws with 10 seconds remaining, to help Kentucky (14-4, 3-2 SEC) rally past Florida (12-8, 2-4) at Gainesville, Fla.

Jennifer O’Neill added 15 points for the Wildcats, who overcame a 10-point deficit in the final 5:29.

(22) FLORIDA STATE 83, CLEMSON 73: Courtney Ward scored 21 points to lead visiting Florida State (15-4, 3-1 ACC) over Clemson (8-12, 1-4).

VANDERBILT 65, (23) ARKANSAS 54: Freshman Jasmine Lister scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers, and Stephanie Holzer added 16 points to help Vanderbilt (13-6, 4-2 SEC) upset Arkansas (15-3, 3-3) at Nashville, Tenn.

(25) OHIO STATE 71, ILLINOIS 62: Brittany Johnson had 22 points and Jantel Lavender scored 19 to help Ohio State (12-6, 3-3 Big Ten) beat Illinois (7-12, 2-4) at Champaign, Ill.
