Maine Colleges: UNE stuns USM with late comeback

Devin Thompson led UNE with 19 points. Jesse Dykstra scored 13.

UMAINE-MACHIAS 71, SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 60: Elias Gutierrez scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Clippers (10-10, 7-7 YSCC) rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit against the Seawolves (18-8, 11-3) at South Portland.

Jon Amabile led the Seawolves with 14 points. Emmanuel Donalson scored 13.


UNE 65, ROGER WILLIAMS 56: Meghan Gribbin scored 17 points and the Nor'easters (17-4, 13-0 Commonwealth Coast) went on a 27-16 run over the final 11 minutes to pull away from the Hawks (14-7, 10-4) at Bristol, R.I.

Beth Suggs added 15 points and eight rebounds for UNE, which matched the longest winning streak in school history with its 12th straight victory.

UMBC 86, MAINE 79: Danielle Walczak finished with career-high totals of 28 points and 12 rebounds, but the Black Bears (2-20, 1-8 America East) fell to the Retrievers (7-15, 3-6) at Orono.

Liz Wood added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Black Bears.

USM 58, KEENE STATE 56: Haley Jordan hit a tying jump shot with 32 seconds left and Erin McNamara sank two free throws with 14 seconds remaining to lift the Huskies (20-1, 9-1 Little East) over the Owls (7-13, 2-8) at Gorham.

Jordan finished with 15 points, and Rebecca Knight had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

EMMANUEL 55, ST. JOSEPH'S 47: Morgan Cahill scored 18 points to pace the Monks (12-9, 6-3 GNAC) in a loss to the Saints (16-5, 8-0) at Standish.

WILLIAMS 50, BOWDOIN 42: Claire Baecher of Brunswick scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Ephs (18-4, 7-1 NESCAC) past the Polar Bears (12-9, 3-5) at Brunswick.

Kaitlin Donahoe finished with 22 points for Bowdoin, which led 21-15 at halftime.

BATES 82, TRINITY 77: Allie Beaulieu made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points to pace the Bobcats (11-10, 4-5 NESCAC) to a win over the Bantams (13-8, 4-4) at Hartford, Conn.

Taryn O'Connell and Molly Brown added 15 points apiece.

MIDDLEBURY 52, COLBY 48: Scarlett Kirk scored 20 points as the Panthers (11-10, 3-5 NESCAC) held off the Mules (7-14, 1-7) at Waterville.

Carylanne Wolfington led Colby with 13 points.

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 83, UMAINE-MACHIAS 64: Nyalieb Deng collected 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Seawolves (14-7, 8-3 YSCC) to a win over the Clippers (14-6, 10-2) at South Portland.

Jaimi Poland scored 15 points and Alicia Hoyt finished with 14 for the Seawolves.
