Boys' Soccer: Waynflete shuts out NYA

PORTLAND - Kevin Kanakan scored with 10 minutes left in the first half and Peabo Knoth added a second-half goal as unbeaten Waynflete secured the Western Maine Conference Class C regular-season boys' soccer title with a 2-0 win Friday over North Yarmouth Academy.

Jacob Scammon of NYA gets double-teamed by Max Belleau, rear, and Henry Cleaves of Waynflete.

Mohamed Suja assisted on Knoth's goal as Waynflete improved to 9-0-1. NYA is 8-4-1.

CAPE ELIZABETH 4, FREEPORT 1: Eli Breed broke a scoreless tie 14:44 into the second half, added a second goal for a 2-0 lead and assisted on a third as the Capers (4-5-1) pulled away from the Falcons (2-7-2) in Cape Elizabeth.

Charlie Laprade and Matt Riggle also scored for the Capers. Sam Farrar scored for the Falcons.

MASSABESIC 4, BIDDE-FORD 1: Surafel Zunser tallied twice for the Mustangs (4-6-1) in a victory over Biddeford (1-8-1) at Waterboro.

Brian Wardwell and Brandon Bosse also scored for Massabesic. The Tigers' goal was scored by Garrett Dube.

Massabesic keeper Andrew Wicklund had five saves, and Biddeford keeper Josh McCauley made seven saves.

TRAIP ACADEMY 3, WELLS 0: Miguel Herrera had a goal and an assist as the Rangers (5-6-1) downed the Warriors (2-9) at Kittery.

Peter Roy and Brandon Metevier also scored.

Traip's Colin Macomber finished with five saves. Tyler Lamb had 11 saves for Wells.

YORK 1, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Michael Gallagher scored with an assist from Mitchell Hickey to give the Wildcats (6-2-2) a win over the Raiders (4-4-3) at York.

SACOPEE VALLEY 2, POLAND 2: Alex Corcoran scored the only goal of the second half to secure a tie for Poland (2-6-3) against Sacopee Valley (1-8-1) at Poland.

Nigel Williams started the scoring for Poland before Trey Watson and Ryan Moulton gave Sacopee a 2-1 halftime lead.

Sacopee goalie Michael Pingree made seven saves. Poland keeper Zack Lowe turned away five shots.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 2, MORSE 0: Brandon Soper broke a scoreless deadlock with 15:48 remaining and Kerry Madden added an insurance goal as the Panthers (4-8) beat the Shipbuilders (4-8) in Waldoboro.

Jonathan Hendrickson-Belloguet and Zach Starr each had an assist. Ryan Riley made four saves for Medomak, and Duane Tardiff had eight for the Shipbuilders.

RICHMOND 9, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 0: Eddie Stewart, Nate Tribbett and Curtis Anderson scored two goals apiece to lead the Bobcats (12-0) past the Lions (5-6) at Richmond.
