SOUTH BERWICK – Westbrook took command early, withstood a second-half comeback and came away with a 62-57 victory against Marshwood in an SMAA schoolboy basketball game Friday night.

The Blue Blazes (6-2) opened the game on a 10-0 run and increased the lead to 23-11 by the end of the first period.

Alec Hazlewood scored 11 of his 15 points in the first quarter for Westbrook.

After the Blazes increased the lead to 38-22 by the half, The Hawks (3-5) rallied behind the outside shooting of Daniel Veino, pulling within two in the fourth quarter before the foul shooting of Zachary Bean and Aaron Duncanson put the game away.

David Breunig added 15 points, Bean and Duncanson 11 each, and Keenan Lowe 10 for Westbrook. Veino scored 32 points, including seven 3-pointers, and Brady Dode added 13 points for Marshwood.

BONNY EAGLE 76, NOBLE 39: Dustin Cole had 29 points and eight assists, and Ben Malloy added 21 points and eight rebounds to lead the Scots (7-1) past the Knights (3-5) at Standish.

GORHAM 56, MASSABESIC 42: Alex Owens scored six points, and teamed with fellow guard Corey Nadeau to key the defense for the Rams (3-5), who outscored Massabesic (0-8) 14-3 in the second period to take a 28-12 halftime lead at Gorham.

Owens finished with 14 points. Casey Nava scored 17 for the Mustangs.

KENNEBUNK 49, BIDDEFORD 45: Ben Wilson had 12 points as the Rams (1-7) edged the Tigers (2-6) at Kennebunk.

Nate Gilbert added 11 points and Tyler Elkington put in 10 for the Rams, who led 29-16 at the half before the Tigers came back to make it 34-34 after three periods.

Kennebunk built a four-point lead early in the fourth and held on.

Patrick Wilson scored 16 with four 3-pointers for Biddeford.

PORTLAND 49, WINDHAM 31: Jayvon Pitts-Young scored 11 points for Portland (8-0) against over the Eagles (2-5) at Windham.

The Bulldogs used pressure defense to help build a 22-13 halftime lead.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 53, A.R. GOULD 50: Chase Gendron had 19 points for the Panthers (2-5), who held off a late rally by the Bears (4-3) at Yarmouth.

Gendron hit 11 from the line, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked two shots for NYA, which led 47-30 after three quarters.

El Tayeb Dahia added 13 points, and Jackson Cohan-Smith helped the Panthers with six points and six steals.

Zacharia Mohamed scored 22 for A.R. Gould.

SCARBOROUGH 81, THOR-NTON ACADEMY 74: Dillon Russon and Sam Terry combined for 40 points for the Red Storm (4-4), who shot 12 of 16 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to put away the Golden Trojans (2-5) at Saco.

Jeffrey Gelinas scored 21 points and Adam Ek had 15 for Thornton Academy, which rallied from a 25-16t first-quarter deficit to take a third-quarter lead.

MESSALONSKEE 72, MT. ARARAT 52: Jordan Holmes scored 24 points and Elijah Steele added 23 to lead Messalonskee (4-4) over Mt. Ararat (4-4) at Oakland.

Messalonskee led 45-38 going into the fourth quarter before pulling away.

Holmes and Steele combined to score 25 of Messalonskee’s 42 second-half points.

Shy Ulrickson scored 24 points to lead Mt. Ararat.

MORSE 54, MT. VIEW 41: Ethan Winglass had 12 points as the Shipbuilders (4-3) beat the Mustangs (1-7) at Bath.

D’Vaughn Myers added nine points for Morse.

Jack Simpson had 13 points for Mt. View.

HYDE 72, VALLEY 69: Evander Lenardson scored 11 of his 15 points in the two overtimes to lead the Phoenix (4-0) over Valley (6-2) at Bath.

Warsame Mohamed led Hyde with 18 points; Wilson MacMillan scored 12.

Carrington Miller led Valley with 23 points, eight assists and 13 rebounds, and Josh West added 16 points and 12 rebounds.
