Girls' Roundup: York triumphs on a late goal

YORK - Paige McElwain scored with 1:20 remaining Tuesday to give York a 1-0 victory against Freeport in a Western Maine Conference schoolgirl soccer game.

Maddie Patten stopped eight shots for York (6-4-1). Aubrey Pennell had 12 saves for Freeport (5-7-1).

 

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 3, WELLS 2: Kaycee Slick scored with less than two minutes left to lift the Seagulls (8-1-3) over the Warriors (1-9-1) at Old Orchard Beach.

Amy Twohig opened the scoring for the Seagulls on a penalty kick two minutes into the game. Wells responded with goals by Stephanie Woods and Sophia Lamb to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

Old Orchard tied it on a goal by Olivia Dubois with seven minutes left.

Kaitlyn Tufts made 13 saves for Wells. Jaclyn MacDonald stopped four shots for the Seagulls.

 

YARMOUTH 1, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Tess Merrill got by three defenders to score with 30 seconds left in the first half, helping the Clippers (3-5-4) beat the Raiders (2-9-1) at Yarmouth.

Shannon Fallon made two saves for the shutout. Elle Burbank had 16 saves for Fryeburg.

 

BRUNSWICK 2, MT. ARARAT 0: Kassidy Scarponi and Anna Cowan scored as the Dragons (12-0) downed the Eagles (8-4) at Topsham.

Haley Murano made eight saves to record the shutout. Lauren Williams stopped five shots for Mt. Ararat.

 

GORHAM 5, KENNEBUNK 1: Kali St. Germain scored twice, and Morgan Cushing had a goal and an assist for Gorham (9-3), which took a 4-0 lead in the first 12 minutes against Kennebunk (1-10-1) at Gorham.

Meghan Cushing and Katie Tucker also scored, and Marissa Roberts made seven saves for Gorham.

Natasha Staples scored and Kyra Schwartzman stopped 24 shots for Kennebunk.

 

POLAND 6, LAKE REGION 0: Emma Turton scored three goals, and Emily Bolduc added a goal and three assists as the Knights (6-3-2) beat the Lakers (4-6-1) at Poland.

Sarah Bolduc added a pair of goals and Haley Whitworth made three saves to record the shutout.

 

LISBON 6, WINTHROP 0: Kayla Angelico scored three goals to lead the Greyhounds (12-0-1) over Winthrop (0-12-1) at Lisbon Falls.

Paige Galligan, Lauren Grant and Renee Samay-Houle added goals.

Danielle Pease made 12 saves for Winthrop.

FIELD HOCKEY

MT. VIEW 1, BELFAST 1: Kelsey Grass scored from Katrina Lapham with 10:22 left in the first half for the Lions (11-1-2) and Lauren Richard tied it for Mt. View (10-3-1) from Braley Leadbetter just over seven minutes later at Belfast.

 

WINTHROP 2, BOOTHBAY REGION 0: Cat Ouellette and Emmah Spahr scored to lift the Ramblers (12-1-1) over the Seahawks (3-11) at Boothbay Harbor.

Micaela Hajduk added an assist and Alyssa Arsenault made three saves for Winthrop.

Madison McCarthy stopped nine shots for Boothbay.

 

BONNY EAGLE 1, KENNEBUNK 0: Leah Carter scored from Tori Cady midway through the second half to give the Scots (3-8-2) the edge on the Rams (4-10) at Standish.

Ashlyn Wintle made four saves for Bonny Eagle; Colleen Keegan collected two for Kennebunk.

 

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 1, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Juliana Tardif scored midway through the first half and Elizabeth Coughlin made two saves to lead the Panthers (12-2) past the Hawks (2-11-1) at South Hiram.

Chloe Ronco made seven saves for Sacopee.

 

MT. ARARAT 3, BRUNSWICK 0: Charlotte Crosby scored a pair of goals just over two minutes apart late in the first half, both from Carly Raymond, to lead the Eagles (10-4) past the Dragons (2-9-3) at Topsham.

Caitlin LaFountain added a goal from Kate Groh early in the second half.

Taylor Pare made one save for Mt. Ararat.

Sydney Escoe had seven saves for Brunswick.
