A Windham girl has won a Burger King/McLamore Foundation college scholarship worth $1,000.

Jenna Alling was one of 1,476 high school seniors nationwide to win the scholarship given in recognition of students’ academic achievement.

The scholarship money comes directly from franchise and company-owned Burger King restaurants throughout the country that take it upon themselves to host a variety of fundraising activities in order to generate the money needed to fund the scholarships.

Now in its sixth year, the Burger King Scholars Program has awarded 8,526 scholarships to deserving youth, totaling more than $8.5 million. To determine scholarship recipients, the Burger King/McLamore Foundation works with high school principals and counselors to identify students who meet the criteria for an award.

“It’s imperative to Burger King Corporation that we, as a company, give back to the communities that have supported our restaurants through the Burger King Scholars Program, by helping to ensure a positive future for our young people, “said Clyde Rucker, co-chairman of the Burger King/McLamore Foundation.
