A Casco man recently reported that two of his firearms were stolen from his residence.

According to Captain William Rhoads of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, David Breton of 15 Varney Road in Casco discovered the theft when his sister, Marcia Fritz of Naples, contacted him, wanting to know if he still had his Makarov semi-automatic pistol. She had received a call from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Boston saying they had confiscated the Makarov after it had been used in a drug related crime in that city.

“There’s more than one time that firearms from Maine have shown up in Boston,” Rhoads said.

When Breton checked his gun cabinet, he discovered both the Makarov and a Thompson Contender single shot pistol were missing. According to Rhoads, Breton isn’t sure when the guns were stolen but guessed it was after hunting season last year.

Breton could not be reached for comment. His sister, Marcia Fritz, declined to comment.

Police reports indicate that Breton last saw the two firearms around hunting time last year. Detective Brian Ackerman of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is heading up the investigation into who stole the guns from the Breton residence.
